Performance Audis and VWs are supposed to have silver mirror caps. In fact I think they are most fetching and look absolutely spiffing with my vibrant Tornado Red paint.

The only colour I don't think the silver does anything for is white, and perhaps Limestone Grey.  If I was getting a white car, I definitely spec the black gloss mirrors.

As in "already"

Not at all.   Unlike you M.Ex, I don't get easily bored by cars   Me and my delicious Mk6 will have been together 3 long years by the time we part.  I realise that's an aeon to you in car ownership terms

Seriously, I actually like the brushed silver accents, on most of the R colours, including DBP, but there may come a time when I feel the need to look über stealth

i think the silver contrasts quite well on the white and less so on say the blue and is thankfully hidden on the silver R's.

I don't get bored, it's just that there are so many good offerings I'd like to have them all but none of them suits me perfectly yet none of them are duds.

And excuse me but although you've had your lovely shiny beautiful black mk6 for ages and ages you've been banging on about a mk7 R for as long as I've been out of nappies!
Not that I'm one to split hairs!

I think it's likely my mk7 will actually be with me quite a long time but in the meantime I like to explore other options, not that I'm a car tart or anything...

Orangewheels also show the black mirror option so it's in the pipeline somewhere even if VW retail aren't up to date with their own options and availability. Not that that's a common occurrence or anything.

Think I'm going to order a set of spare mirror caps from TPS and get them painted or wrapped gloss black for when I get sick of the silver ones

I toyed with idea of these for my Carbon Grey GTI

Not sure they would look right on Lapiz Blue though  :undecided:

They look ok and would probably suit Lapiz more than the other R colours.  Not for a black car though, tbh I'm not a massive fan of carbon fibre.

The TPS ones are quite reasonably priced but come unpainted.  According to R Forum, around £35 each side.

You don't have to qualify your reasons to me Mr Car Tart

Haha, I have been banging on about an R, for a (short) while   But that's only because I decided to skip the Mk7 GTI and purchase the Mk6 as a stop gap until the Mk7 R made an appearance, and then, when it transpired that Dynaudio wasn't intially available I decided to wait it out.  I'm glad I did

So really I'd decided to buy the Mk7 R back in 2012, I just had to wait for VW to catch up and build it

I think I've been quite patient  :nerd:

the mirrors are just to shiny shiny, the should have done the black option on the bumper strip too

the wife lasted about 2 weeks with the chrome one

you get used to these things as i think the wife's looks like its on stilts

Lowering it soon?

I'm inclined to give the silver ones a chance first.  Agree about the front lip needing to match whatever colour the mirrors are.

Did Mrs W wrap her mirrors or are they painted?

i got a spare set wrapped, mrs w's spare set were painted by the dealer (finish is slightly better) as part of her good will deal

still got to get the lip done on hers, and may lower it, I am not allowed to drive it until she has given it 'full beans' in her words now its done 1,000 miles as want to compare the ride at speed

she may be getting a second set of rotarys for it as well

Think I'd prefer to get the mirror caps painted rather than wrapped, a bit more OEM, and know someone who can do it.  Would probably wrap the lip as it's low down and less noticeable.

The Rotary's are
