Best cleaner for stock chrome exhaust (Polo GTI)
« on: 03 April 2015, 00:02 »
Hi there looking to clean the dirt/soot off my Polo GTI which has the standard twin exhaust. Dont want anything too abrasive that would peel the chrome finish. Any ideas  :undecided:

Mothers Mag and Aluminium Polish

For baked on carbon deposit try it with some fine grade 000 steel wool.  Work the polish in with the wool, you'll need to put some effort into it, but be gentle as it will scratch if you're overzealous.  Buff to a shine with a soft microfibre.

Also often recommended are Autosol Metal Polish and Britemax Twins (which is a 2 stage cleaner/polish/sealant)

This was result using Mothers. Not the best before pics but they've been worse and still come up nice and shiny.

Britemax metal twins all day long, the best metal polish I've ever used and as Booth says it has a separate sealant too.

Autosol. You can buy it from the high street, it's cheap, and in my opinion it's beter than the other products you've lsited

I know Autosol has a bit of a cult following and I used to use it but was always disappointed with the result.  Even when well worked it struggled to shift caked on soot.  I also tried Auto Finesse metal polish but found that to be almost identical to the Autosol.

Switched to Mags and haven't looked back.  Mind you I fancy trying the Britemax metal twins as it gets such rave reviews.  My pot ofvMags is almost finished so might get some of that next.
