Final update.

Car is fixed there was a loose bolt that was the cause!! Anyway the buggers rang me just as I arrived at uni in Nottingham where I was planning on staying till Friday. They need the car back as it's the dealer principals! Wonder what he has been driving.

Anyway going home tomorrow night and will probably use it as an excuse to stay home for a further week!

Glad it's sorted, just hope they haven't created another rattle during their search for the original one.

I guess tmcolour really is a personal thing. The day I ordered I saw a carbon grey and a silver side by side. I picked the silver. I also saw a tungsten silver GTI a few days later. Nice colour too. Hopefully the reflex silver I ordered will look the part...

Not normally a fan of silver cars or light greys, but imo both Reflex and Tungsten Silver really suit the Mk7 more so than any other mark of GTI except maybe Mk4.  They bring out the sharp creases of the design so well, and the upside is they look cleaner for longer

I don't mind cleaning my car every day of the week so have picked DBP for the R

What's people's experiences of keeping Carbon grey cars clean? I can imagine not quite as hard as dbp, but obviously not as easy as reflex silver!

I coated ours from new with Wolfs Hardbody and it stays really quite clean. A bit of rain shifts the dirt. It's nearly a year old and still working pretty well. Glad I did it even if it's more tricky than a normal sealant.

Nice one. I think I'm gonna have to get my car detailed and waxed when she arrives. Prevention is better than cure and all that!

I had mine done with Polished Angel by Unique Detail - a year on all it takes is a normal two bucket was and it looks good as new. I have never polished it or done anything apart from use normal Megs Gold Class shampoo...

Pleasure, although reading back through my post I did wonder whether I'd written it in English as I don't think I explained it very well! It's hard to convey a push in the back feeling in print and everyone drives differently and comes from different car backgrounds.

So, good to hear Charv's car is sorted now - after a day or two driving a DSG, do you still dislike it? Or should that be "after a day or two of beating the sh!t out of a loan GTI DSG kept in Sport mode all the time has it grown on you?"

After the weekend and now finding quite how much a gti is capable of. I would say it's very good, sport mode would be good if you are on it for a long period but if you want to Cane it down a slip road then settle onto the motorway I found sport mode slightly frustrating. It's a all or nothing kind of mode in the dsg.

On the town run it sometimes won't choose a gear which frustrates. All in all it is very good, but for me, it's not what I want. I want to be in full control. I also feel like it's very expensive. The car has no options other than the gearbox. For someone with limited funds id probably choose to have a couple of options instead of just a gearbox

Yep, it's so easy to clean. First go with a "hard" sealant and definitely worth the effort. I probably should have added "trickier to apply than a normal sealant" earlier. Once done it's a piece of cake to look after.

I suspect you have pressed the Sport setting which defaults the gearbox to Sport too. Look in the top right hand corner of the display in between the dials of the instrument binnacle. If it say S1 S2 etc pull back on the gear lever and it will drop the gearbox to normal rather than the sh!t or bust mode it defaults too
