I spent the last couple of weeks, whilst taking long works and jogging, looking at numerous A3 Sportbacks including 4 S3s and 5 door Golfs including 1 GTI, 3 GTDs and 3 Rs that have populated my area in London. Yes, I have nothing better to do, it would seem!

So you're out of the closet as the local VAG car stalker. Be careful, some people take exception to that kind of thing, we wouldn't want any harm to come to you.  I hope your stealth is such that you don't go around setting off all the alarms as you inspect the minutiae of each car.

I don't think any of us are really the kind to blindly defend Golf quality just because we happen to own one.  If something obviously has a higher build quality, fair enough, but I still have my doubts that that is the case with the A3's v the GTD/GTI/R.

I owned an A3 many years ago before I bought my first GTI. I admit I was suckered by the badge and the perceived quality. The car was easily the worst car I ever owned. It was such a let down from day one. Numerous rattles, terrible paint finish, you name it.

An A3 is a Golf in an (arguably) prettier dress. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded.

The A3 has the better fitting dress though not necessarily a prettier one.

Panic over (for now) my car is now at BW29 (for now).

So in the space of a week it slipped back 20 weeks, then jumped forward 3 weeks and today leapt forward another 16 weeks.  Don't you just love VW

The downside is now I won't get to buy the prettier frocked, and far superior built S3

If the S3 has a better looking interior, and the Golf has a better looking exterior, wouldn't you say that the Golf has the prettier dress and the S3 has the saucier undergarments?

BW29? You might still get it before mine arrives - 30 days since mine left Wolfsburg....
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

That's great. Same week as me, week 29. I wonder are VW expecting a big delivery of Pretoria wheels that week or what ?!!

Yeah but if the exterior is pig ugly you might not stick around long enough to enjoy the risqué underwear....and what lies beneath

Just seen the other thread, so at long last the arrival of your R is imminent.  I really hope it's worth the seemingly endless wait.  Have you had any offer of goodwill?  A new set of Conti 5p's or Michelin PSS would be a nice gesture

That explanation doesn't quite work for me, or are you insinuating something

It's a relief!  I asked the dealer to keep me informed if it starts jumping around again, he doesn't seem to think it will.  Apparently there were 3 R's that it happened to and all have now reverted back to roughly where they started.

Ha, yeah week 29 must be Prets delivery week.

Booth11: Well Ronald didn't call yesterday as he said he would, nor today to return my call. I will have to chase him down to get him to commit to a gesture before I have got my car. Hoping for them to make a discount/contribution to the 5 year warranty I bought.

Will be interesting to see whether "PoEn" officially being reached today will prompt a tracker movement to stage 6 tomorrow morning.

Was behind a 3 door Lapiz R with Prets for most of the way home. Not sure what all the fuss is about with 4 pipes being "too showy", the inner 2 pipes were so sooty that they blended in with the black valance, it just looked like it only had 2 pipes to the casual glance. Even on a crappy drizzly 4:40pm afternoon the Lapiz was looking great.

Fingers crossed that stage 6 comes tommorow.

When I first saw the pics of the quad exhausts I wasn't sure at all, but in the flesh I agree, they don't look that showy at all, I love 'em.  Mine won't be sooty though, they'll be gleaming at all times, well most of the time.  The Lapiz is gorgeous and if I wasn't such a sucker for black that's what I would've gone for myself, it was second choice.

Looking forward to the pics of yours, very soon I hope
