I heard a similar thing re the BMWs but never had a conversation with anyone about it. May do soon to see what's on offer.

Coast2coast cars (broker) seem to be offering the best BMW discounts right now - you'll get 24.5% off the higher echelons of the 3 and 5 series like 330D/335D X-drive/535D etc, the 4 series doesn't get nearly as big a discount.

Yep, Coast2Coast and go to Berry Heathrow and speak to Tony Lewis.

the let-off when you pull away can sometimes be a little harsh, like its gripped a little too much. Never had excessive grab on the Scirocco which had the Ye-olde handle/lever plus the hill hold that let go after 2 seconds. My drive is on quite a gradient and very narrow between the pillars - we're talking 2 inches clearance either side of fully deployed wing mirrors. With that set-up, I want to crawl out of the drive between the pillars with use of a manual handbrake rather than go at a speed the auto-handbrake dictates.

Not sure that's the norm Matt.
Mine is really gentle at take off. The only time I've felt it grab slightly is when I hadn't driven it for a few days but I reckon that was more the rust than the handbrake at fault.

I've only driven one other Mk7 and it was exactly the same.

I know its not ideal but you could release the handbrake manually when pulling away from your drive so in effect you wouldn't be doing any more than if it was a manual one.

Hi, I have resently ordered a Gti and have given a build week of 22. I have already got the extra VW contribution and lower APR. My extras include Dis Nav and Dynaudio. I have just emailed the dealer to tell them I want the Tech Pack instead, as it is cheaper and presumably an upgrade on the head unit. Should they be able to do this and if not should I ask for some money off.

Assuming your build week is unconfirmed, then you should be able to add the Tech pack (£1240) in lieu of the individually specced Dynaudio and DNS.  The pack will give you Dynaudio and DNS Pro which is the upgraded nav with 8" screen.  I just added the Tech pack to my R order last week (BW24) and that has been accepted by the factory.

Additionally cars built in BW22 or after will get the the MY 2016 changes which is Gen 2 DNS Pro which has higher res screen (still 8").

Hopefully your dealer should hopefully be able to confirm all this.

Is the only difference higher def screen, as if your not watching movies I'm not sure if I'm too bothered. I have a 2012 Rocco at the moment and the sat Nav screen on that is fine.

I've edited my original post as just remembered that on the GTI the Tech pack is cheaper then the two specced separately (it's dearer on the R) and so you might as well have the Tech Pack as you'll be paying £45 quid less and getting DNS Pro.

DNS Pro has other things above the DNS, such as integrated voice control, 3D maps, DVD, SSD hard drive  etc.

Finally it seems there could possibly be an answer as to why the Tech Pack costs less on a GTI/D

http://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9563

The GTI/D looks like it might be getting the nav as standard BUT the list price is going up by nearly a grand.

So where the Edition 40 will sit in between the GTI and R if the prices between them are getting tighter and tighter is anyone's guess.
