Personally I think light colours work best with the mk7.
On a GTI/D especially you lose the little touches like the lower grille strakes and the side skirt and black trim contrast on dark colours, and also the distinctive line down the side of the car tends to vanish.
VW used white for their initial launch of the GTI for good reason, red also looks good, particularly on a GTD or R.
If it was me buying again I'd get an R in silver then vanish into the background invisibly, and also in that colour I'd never have to clean it.
