Car died on me.

VW Master Technician didn't find anything other than a possible loose connection on a sensor.

I can believe this. A loose connection can pass an "improbable value" to the ECU which to protect the engine will go into limp mode. I've not had this on the Golf but a couple of times on previous cars, most notably my Jag S-Type-R which dropped to tick-over only in the middle of a junction at rush hour. Like a Windows Laptop... turning it off and back on again cured the issue and it never happened again in my ownership

Yes you can clear individual faults.

Anything I've looked at looks like its going to clear the whole lot.

Make a note of the different controllers that are throwing up errors. Actually as I'm writing this I've realised what you might mean ie multiple faults within the same controller? If so then you can't clear individual ones within the same controller only different controllers. My fault sorry.

No you were right, I'm sure the faults are on different controllers.
But when I go to click "Clear faults" I get the impression it wipes all faults which I'm reluctant to do.

If they are on different controllers then when you clear the faults it only does it on the individual controller. If you do an autoscan and clear the codes it clears all of them.

Now been running the car for the last couple of days with no box and no error messages

Open each control module and there is fault code button for each one. Which then opens  another dialog which can clear that modules fault code.

I decided to leave all my error codes on the car and took it in for a service.
When I got it back they said there were no errors on the fuel system.
I thought they were at it and showed them my errors from VCDS.
They then brought the paperwork out and showed me the errors they had.
They had all my errors apart from the Fuel Rail / System pressure - to low and Fuel Pressure Sensor - Implausible Signal

I was asked if it was the ODIS system I was using and when I told them no it was VCDS / Vag Com, they said they hadn't heard of it.

Is it possible VCDS would pick up errors that their official software wouldn't?

It does make you chuckle when they come out with 'they haven't heard of it'

Yeah I know, although I suppose they aren't enthusiasts and have no need to go searching for alternative methods to access the brains of the car so it is possible 

I just thought they were at it saying the fuel system was all right. Seems a bit strange VCDS can pick up on errors that the VW official ODIS system can't.
