Hmmm have a read of this thread:

Apparently there is also an aerial booster to fix the TMC problem. It comes from Kenwood but they won't supply it unless you have a problem. Either call the supplying dealer or Kenwood I suggest.

The whole thing sounds like an utter pain in the backside I have to say :(

There's a used Golf R I'm really interested in but I checked the pictures and there was one of the navigation screen that looked like the kenwood/garmin nav upgrade. It's really put me off the car, visually it looks quite bad compared to the normal VW one and it doesn't show up on the MFD. In my current car (Audi A3) I tend to look at the MFD more than the navigation screen. Is it better than the VW navigation?

I agree, the MFD is the bit of Nav I use the most.

The Kenwood one was worse than MIB1 and by the time you get to MIB2 or 3 its positively retro.

You'd be better off really spending a lot less than 600 quid on a decent non-integrated TomTom really.

I guess the only advantage is being able to hear the sound over any music you have playing.

The real crying shame is that VW refuse to let you retro fit OEM Nav units to their cars :(

I am wondering why this car has it. Didn't all MIB2 Golf R's come with Nav standard? It also has Dynaudio so it seems strange that it has this Kenwood nav instead of the normal one.

I thought in 2016 all 7R's had basic nav as standard. I don't think there was a period where CMS was standard.

Does the car in question have the sharkfin on the roof?

Probably comes with instructions but will go in between the aerial cable from the tmc antenna and the unit itself.

Folks, does anyone have a copy of the instructions to install this in a Mk7? Instructions on Briskoda for a Fabia refer to "dip switch settings", are these covered on the VW instructions?
