So it looks like I will be the first to try this here. The unit is sitting on my kitchen floor...

I'm going to fit it myself. Retail for the unit only is £545. Negotiate your own discount... ;)

Fitted this in the morning. The instructions look great but are dire. Several screw locations are missing for removing the  glove box and the instructions for setting the dip switches are completely erroneous. For example the dip switches let you have the option for the Polo or Golf screens, a reverse camera and nav instructions via left, right or both speakers. The GTi needs the reverse camera dip enabled as it has a park pilot screen....

I like the unit very much. It works very like a high end Garmin unit and is much better than the standard navigation ( I have an Octavia 3 with an Amundsen system which is MIB). Will update as I use it more.

DougL can you confirm that you can still listen to the radio whilst in nav mode.
I am assuming that you got some discount on this, what would one expect to achieve discount wise ?

From this document http://www.lookers.co.uk/upload/files/Kenwood%20MIB%20-%20Features%20and%20Benefits.pdf

It says you can still listen to any media whilst navigating (see page 2 / 3rd para)

There are a few youtube clips showing this unit and the media still plays with the voice just coming out over the top (through one speaker).
The only slight downside is that the DIS view won't work but it's no big deal really.

The voice can be set to come out of either front speaker or both by means of a dip switch. I've also just ordered a reversing camera from ebay that fits in the number plate light recess to see how that works.

What does this unit consist of - presumably a replacement for the item inside the glovebox - no new screen?

It's in addition to the bit in the glovebox and it goes above the glovebox out of sight. No new screen.
