I fitted a mk1 style duckbill splitter today... just until I get the bbs kit back on, I think it looks cool

I think a speed bump may take that off haha. It's come a long way eh are you pleased? Are you going to keep the same colour or have it done different? Be nice to see it all original don't see many original mk2,s anymore

Honestly I don't know if I would have the contacts, know-how and patience to buy one needing some work and do it myself after reading through this thread!

I am in no rush so I will just keep my eye out and see what comes up...being from NI as well means I am more limited unless I want to buy from England and bring it across - i.e. there is one for sale ATM for £8K   1989 GTI 8v...!!!!  Crazy money even for the low miles.

Duckbill splitter is definitely a cool addition

Fair play to you. I agree, its a much bigger sense of achievement from building and fixing the car up to the eventual finished article.  Although it's extremely stressful at times when things go wrong or you notice rust it will make up for it in the end. Plus by doing this you will know the car inside out.

yeah exactly, its nice to learn more about the car as I go, ive done things to this car I didn't know I could do but ive got my tools out and given it a go, its been fun, and yes a little stressful!

Starfox- Wow I wouldn't spend £8k on one! Definitely come over and take one back on the ferry! much better idea and far more choice!

I think im quite lucky as I do have a lot of VW contacts, ive been into VWs ever since I could drive, or just before actually.... being a women helps too

Im going to keep it original colour, I want it to look how it looked when it was delivered to the customer when it was new... until that point though im just collecting parts, stashing them away and playing around with the car and different looks. Don't think ive done too badly with it really considering it went through a very ugly stage where I thought I might have to scrap it!

Went to Appledore Classic Car Show yesterday, was a nice drive down with Medway Monkeys Car Club and a good day. People actually stopped to look at my car, was well proud

Today my gear linkage ball thing that had disintegrated was replaced and I now have reverse again yay! The car actually feels so much better and the gears are where they are supposed to be again.

Unfortunately we have sprung a new oil leak, this time its out of the distributor :-(
Don't really know how im going to fix this one, the garage suggested getting an ABF botton end and refurbing the top end but obviously that's going to be loads of money so god knows what I will do. In the mean time got to keep topping up :-(

Sourcing an ABF engine complete isn't as expensive as you think, and possibly a better option than using your current top end. Find a written off (rear end damaged) mk3 16v and get all the running gear for just a few hundred quid. Much smoother engine, better economy and easier to tune (you can remap the ECU for even smoother power and more efficiency).

Or even a mk4 1.8T engine (150bhp version), more power but again, smoother and more efficient. The 1.8T engines are a very common swap so loads of advice and help out there and it's probably the most cost effective engine swap currently out there for mk2/3 Golfs.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!
