Water in my front fogs - Mk6 GTI

Hi

It's about 1.5cm deep!
Does anyone else have an issue with this?
Is there an easy fix or am I looking at two new units?

I had this after floods a couple of years ago.

If you remember be the plastic cover in the wheel arch then remove the bulb unit you can then (with some difficulty) get a tube in to suck the water out or get a cloth in to soak up the water.

Official removal of the fog light units requires the bumper off!

I recently had this issue although not quite as bad as yours. Luckily my GTD was still under warranty so VW replaced them no questions asked.

I'd remove them and dry them out fully in the airing cupboard for a couple of days.

The slightest bit of moisture left in them will cause them to mist up.

Thanks everyone, I'll locate the cover in the wheel arch, drain and get myself a replacement cover as it clearly wasn't up to the recent floods

As dubber says, make sure they are dry inside

VW advised me to drive with the fogs on for a few journeys to generate some warmth in there.

I'd also suggest a warm hair dryer on the lens to warm it up but be prepared to be patient - it takes ages!!

i had (have) the same issue, floods 2 months ago  i kind of let the water take care of itself as i wasn't sure how to access the case, which was a huge mistake as it has now evaporated but left a brownish hue at the base of both my fogs. Removing the bulb only leaves a tiny opening so don't know whether one could actually use a hose or a cloth there

Same thing happened to me, I just used a small bit of clear pipe attached to a wet and dry vacuum cleaner hose and sucked it out.
Then I left them open overnight in the garage and no problems since.

As a foot note, they are easily dislodged if you hit a deep puddle i drilled the tops of mine and cable tied them in was fed up of buying new ones!
