mk2 1.3 golf
« on: 11 February 2015, 21:44 »
I have got a mk2 1.3 golf and the fan doesn't come on when it's up to temperature I know the fan works because I linked it straight to the battery have read up on it can't seem to find a straight answer for  it but by the sounds of it its the coolant temp sensor but I don't get how it could be that if it reads it's up to temperature or is there a thermal switch for the cooling fan if so where would I find it ?

Start checking the wires and plugs back from the fan and switch.
Helps if you have a meter

The fan shouldn't come on until the engine is well above normal operating temperature. Are you sure it's getting hot enough that the fan should be operating? Somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 on the gauge?

Mine tends to come on a little past half way. Still, it rarely comes on, only when I have been sat in heavy traffic.
It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.

Take the plug of the rad temp sender and bridge the connectors. If it comes on then it's the sensor, if it doesn't then it's the wiring somewhere.
