Wheels

Just wondered if anyone has changed their wheels on their Mk7 GTD?

I like the standard 18s that are on my one but seen an image with a white one on black wheels that looked great
Current: MK7 Golf R (Limestone Grey) DSG, 19 Prets, Winter Pack, Rear Camera, High Beam Assist, Apple Connect, Gloss Black Mirrors
Gone: MK7 Golf R (Tornado Red) DSG, Winter Pack, Keyless, Gloss Black Mirrors
Gone: MK7 Golf GTD (Pure White)

I've got the standard boring white GTD with the 18 inch standard wheels and 20k gentle miles. Will be turning the wheels a different colour before too long as the black painted parts are absolutely chipped to bits. The polished parts are untouched. Even fitted front mudflaps  :embarrassed:in an attempt to keep some of the impacts of the rear wheels, but doesn't seem to have helped much. it's areal shame as I seal and wax them once a month and nothing sticks to them but the black paint must be really soft

I think it's incredibly soft! I was using a fairly soft plastic wheel brush to get in to the alloys for cleaning, and soon noticed loads of fine scratches in the black painted part! I now just wipe them with a kitchen sponge (the non abrasive side :D) I know you can get some really softer wheel cleaners but didn't seem worth it for 40 odd quid when a kitchen sponge does the job.

But on topic, I agree regarding black rims on white, check out Neil's R for a recent MK7:

Those Santiago's look bad ass with the white and PP Exonian :)

They do look a bit like Santiago wheels I agree but they actually aren't. I forgot which ones he bought now, sure he'll soon remind us!

Not changed my wheels yet but if I was to do so then I would go for the BBS CH-R's which are still currently on my wishlist in Satin Black
Current - MK7 Golf GTI - Tornado Red, 5 Door, DSG, Performance Pack, Dynamic Chasis Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Discover Navigation, Dynaudio.

On Order - MK7 Golf R - Pearlescent Black, 3 Door, DSG, Vienna Leather, Discover Nav Pro, Rear View Camera, High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry, Dynaudio (Tech Pack)

All gone.

Now;

MK7 Golf R - Lapiz Blue, 5 Door, DSG, Carbon Nappa, Discover Nav Pro.

Sorry, been a bit busy the last few days so a bit late getting back on here.

I did consider the Santiagos when ordering as they look really nice but those little mini spokes in between the big ones would do my head in when cleaning. Plus I already had a set of 19" BBS so could in no way justify £900 notes on the 19" alloys. £600 and we'd have been talking, £900 is a rip off.

So I put the BBS on the car for a while and didn't think they suited the mk7 as well as the mk6 and started looking for an OEM style wheel that had TUV approval; that little episode lasted a few months before I settled on the Rondell 02RZ alloys above.
They're not the lightest but were quite inexpensive from a company that makes OEM wheels for Merc etc and look pretty OEM. The only real issue is the VW centre cap doesn't quite fit well enough so i kept the Rondell ones.

I'd wanted a set of Talladegas but there weren't any available at the time, typically at the moment there are a few sets for sale (in the ideal Scirocco offset too) as I thought the spokes would suit the bumper strakes, and now that the wheel is non R specific being standard on the Scirocco R Line, it didn't feel quite so 'wrong' to have them on a GTI.

I'm in the same boat, my choices so far

Motorsport 18's  - Nor sure if they look right on the mk7?
Rotary 18's - Expensive!
BBS SR's - best price but not seen them on the mk7?
2016 R!
2016 GTI PP Ordered and cancelled
2015 3DR GTD
2011 3DR GTD
2008 3DR 2.0TDI GT Sport
