Window open fault

Just to add another fault to the long list of crap I have had with my car.

Today I went to open my drivers window to get a ticket for a car park and noticed the one touch open didn't work. Thinking the problem would fix itself once I restart the engine, I left it and went to work. On my way out I opened the window to pay and again it didn't work. I have to press and hold for both up and down.

Is this just another fault with my piece of crap, or is this something I have done without realising ?

By the sounds of it, the one touch just needs "re-programming", it'll be in the handbook but every car I've had was the same - wind window down and then wind it up and hold the switch once the window is closed for ~30 seconds. Job done.

Try a reset. Open the window slightly. Ignition must be on obviously. Close it again. Then pull up on the switch and hold it there for three seconds. These instructions should be in the manual.

Mine does this randomnly from time to time.

I've never "reprogrammed it", it just comes back at some point later. Switching the car off, locking it, leaving it 5 mins (the usual reboot for broken crap) seems to make no difference.

I'm sure the diagnostics has an error log, but I don't have VCDS to look and have never taken it to a dealer about it as it is just random.

In my old Renault, this would only happen when I'd disconnect the battery leads. To "re-program" the windows again I had to lift and hold for 3 sec all window control buttons on the driver's door and that's it. I don't see why on the GTI would be different. It is not normal for the window module to lose it's settings without reason. I would book it in for a check.

As said lower the window a touch then pull the up switch all the way until the window hits the top, then release the button and hold it all the way up again for a few seconds (you usually hear a quiet little click from the window motor when it works properly)

The door module can lose it's learned stop position for a few different reasons. I've not seen it myself on a Mk7 yet but on earlier cars it can be a sign of the door wiring harness starting to break up in the rubber boot that protects the wiring between the A-pillar and the door.
