Searching for the right mk6

Assuming no difference in cost, would people rather have the ACC or a Reverse Camera?

I'd go for ACC then retro fit the camera if you really want one. I'm not sure they are all that necessary in a car as small as the Golf tho'. Useful for reversing under a trailer hitch if you are towing, but other than that it's more of a novelty.

Would do without the Camera for ACC
Camera is fitted to my car and I could easily do without it.
It's a four door hatch not that hard to park.

ACC without a doubt.  Who really needs a reversing camera, or parking sensors for that matter.  Didn't spec either on my mk6 and never wished I'd had them.  Only reason I've specced it on the R is it's cheap option and something pretty to look at on the media screen.

I'd thought about getting a set of winters for the Golf to keep the Vancouvers pristine, but to be honest since starting cycling again last year I've lost all interest in cars. Even my Mk2. I can't see that going to many more shows as time taken getting it ready will be taking up valuable lycra wearing time.

Ahh the lure of lycra!  Sounds like you've been well and truly bitten by the cycling bug, a leisure interest that can get almost as expensive as cars    Can we assume you now shave your legs every week

No need for leg shaving at this time of year, not when I'm wearing tights. 

I'm not doing any racing, but did a lumpy 100K sportive last year in a smidge over 4.5 hours and have signed up for 3 more similar events this year. I'm focusing on trying to increase my distances, but it's hard work around here as everywhere you look there are hills.

I can't see me getting any faster. Being 45 I'm probably as quick as I'm going to get. It's a case of maintaining what bit of fitness I have gained over the last year.

When I used to time trial (25 milers) it was purely speed.  Best time was 1hr 4 mins.  I'm tempted to go out for a similar run now just to see how much slower I'd be now being being nearly triple the age I was then

   ...in my search to find a GTi I made the mistake of pricing up a Golf R!

Having a hard time finding a DSG GTi with ACC...then I happened across some very nice looking Rs that tick all my boxes...and for just £153 per month more! Can you believe it's actually £25 a year cheaper to insure the R over the GTi?! 

Is the R worth the extra £5k or do I buy a GTi and get it remapped?!

My Garmin Edge records my fastest 40KM (24.9 miles). My best time considering the hills is 1hr 26mins, so I'm a good way off your peak. Having said that, I need to keep sufficient in reserve for the rest of the ride.

Go for the R.  A great, very mappable turbo, and still better looking than the its mk7 successor

That's pretty good going considering the hills (and your age )

My peak was a long, long time ago, involved regular proper training, and that time was on a flat course in Lancashire, a place largely devoid of hills.  Made for a rapid but boring ride.  Did quite a few 25ers in Wiltshire and Somerset which has it's fair share of hills. 

Also have a Garmin Edge 500, great bit of kit, very customisable.  Other must have piece of kit for deep winter is a turbo trainer, we have a road bike permanently set up on ours.  Bit different from the days when I used to use a set of rollers in the kitchen.  A momentary lapse of concentration and you'd be on the floor    Don't get much time for proper cycling now, too busy messing with the car.

Sorry for thread hijack lazyeedude, but at least we're talking about things with wheels

I've had acc and reversing camera and the acc is a must in my humble opinion and keep talking bikes I'm enjoying it
