So do all 59 Plate GTi's have this? Or is this a one off?

This was the next mod I was going to do, but looks like I may have to cut bits off my car!!
I'd think twice

Not sure, this is the first xenonz uk has seen.
I'm taking an angle grinder to it on the weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'll post comparable pics of the rear housing for the lights. With the standard lights there's plenty of space for that fin, however the LEDs have more at the back.

Cool, thanks for that.

How easy is it to get the lights out, might take a look this weekend before purchasing the lights.

Easy peasy. Pull the carpet trim away in the boot and you'll see a plastic wing nut. Just undo that, slide the lamp out and unplug the connector. To get to the fixings on the inner lights, just pop the cover off the tailgate trim panel to expose them.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Vertex, do you have the same fin or bracket in the area behind the right hand rear light unit? If not, and if no one else has this, is it possible that your car may have had a repair to the left had rear corner, and a replacement aftermarket, non-VW panel used for the repair? Is there a difference in the quality of the paint in this hidden area on the left hand side compared to the area behind the right hand light cluster, which might be a tell tale sign of a repair?

The extra metal is because your car is white. The white cars were made as prototypes and have all sorts of useless extra bits of metal added here and there. The extra weight is just one of the reasons white GTi's are slow...

The car definitely hasn't been in a crash to that extent, (I'm very particular and can spot a repair very easily). The paint is same inside and out. (He says nervously hoping it wasn't in a crash. VW aren't allowed to sell cars like that are they?!)
Not sure on the other side as I started on the left so ended it soon as I saw the fin.
