Edition 30 DSG Issue
« on: 30 December 2014, 15:02 »
Hi there,

i have a Golf GTI Ed30 with the 6 speed DSG gearbox and has been running fine for the last four years. Over the last month or so the gearbox seems to kickdown randomly when driving along.

this usually happens after you are up to speed and in 6th gear. you are travelling at a constant speed and it will change down on its own to 5th or sometimes to 4th gear. If you stop this seems to reset on its own then it will at a random point do the same.

the funny thing is there are no errors from the VAG com and the box works as normal in manual mode.

this only seems to be an issue in Auto only

the box had the oil and filter changed at 40k miles in 2012 and now has 52k miles on the clock.

does anyone have ant idea what this issue might be before i hit the dealer

Thanks for your help in advance

David.

I would of suggested a faulty throttle position sensor perhaps although the lack of error codes is strange. Check all the wiring to the throttle both in the cabin and in the engine bay (if you can find it!) and check electrical connections everywhere.

This sounds like an electrical problem, not mechanical as it sounds like the car thinks you're going for kick down (if that's the right term for it). I'm a manual car driver so little hands on with DSG but hope it's a start!

Good luck.

Also, if you have VCDS (or access to it), do a DSG box reset. Read the other day about how it "learns" your driving style and the profile it's created may be screwed so cleaning it out may help (and it's only the cost of a VCDS scan).

rear ABS pickups cause the issue with the random shifts in gear

just incase anyone else has a similar issue this might be a place to look

Thanks.
