In my multi changer I once kept getting an error with the disc cartridge and took it to a car audio place who couldnt find the problem, but when they put it back in my car they got the error, it didn't have a permanent live to it when I had this issue so they put one on and Ive had no problems since. So has your unit got a permanent live ? Just a thought as no one else has answered.

My old one used to do that if it got hot - someone told me the grease they use inside (white stuff) goes pretty quickly...

If it's under warrenty it won't be a problem, but it's a old model so I'm guessing it isn't.
I have the KVT-725DVD and mine does that too and it's brand new. It seems ok with DVDs, but hates playign CDs. I've got a changer hooked up now. Another friend had a 725 with mecha error's and read error's. we returned it under warrenty and they installed a new laser and it's been fine ever since. I would return mine, but I can't do without it for another week. :(

Dont know if you've got a manual for it but there's one here --> http://kenwood.nl.nt.ims.hr/languages/EN/support/manuals/KVT-920DVD%20(EN).pdf

The mecha error (page 67 of the above pdf) only says to eject the cd/dvd if problem persists then send to Kenwood dealer ! My, that's handy.
