Or you could just sell it and give us all some peace

Frankenstein has risen again.

Buying a hot hatch for a quiet and comfortable car with low noise levels...very logical

You should have been here when Asker had his mk6, now that was a saga or ten!

God forbid.
Strikes me as rather ridiculous to go back to a manufacturer with the same model, albeit a new generation when the previous one also was riddled with issues.

Insanity is defined as the repeating of a task or process expecting a different result....

Initial thoughts on the Sport Cup 2s after a couple of hundred miles of driving on a mixture of roads

No issues with noise and quieter than the SS

Have noticed a marginal difference in term of improved ride quality which i would attribute to the softer compound

Plenty of dry grip but trying these out tomorrow so will be interesting how lap times compare to SS

I do not seen these as an everyday all round year tyre given the wet weather performance, that said whilst the SS are amazing in the wet I feel the Cup2 will fair better on a drying surface. The offset in improved grip and dry performance is offset by wear and you can tell the SS feels harder

Tyres do make a difference and a few manafuturers are supplying these as option tyres on Megane RS, Leon Cupra and new Focus RS and you can see why, I can also see why some of these cars are giving the GTI and R a hard time on track if shod with the sh!tstones

I would not be surprised if the Clubsport or R400 come with Cup 2s as standard or an option

I'll have to do some benchmarking of times with the car running the sh!tstones on track

Good review on the Michelin SC2 wigit, thanks.

I agree they're probably not the best choice as an all-rounder but horses for courses and all that.  Even though they would fare better in the dry, I would prefer the assurance of the PSS in the wet, so that would still be my year round choice.

Tyres are very important to me and I really do wish that VW would offer the optional extra to upgrade to a better tyre at the point of speccing/ordering on their performance Golf’s (at a reasonable cost of course).  As you can spec plenty else, why not one of the most important things?   Given the choice I'd definiately do that rather than have the hassle of later swapping out for decent tyres and either consigning the inferior rubber to the back of a cupboard or flogging it on ebay.

Surely VW will put decent rubber on the R400/Clubsport??  It will be laughable (and not in a funny way) if they came on B'stones.

Look forward to seeing how the SC2s compare on lap times against the PSS (just as a matter of interest).

Having a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 fitted to my GTD tomorrow morning. Have ran them previously on a GTI and thought they were great. Should be a huge improvement on the OE Bridgestones.
