My front tyres need replacing on my mk7 PP Gti, on 19" wheels, I've been pleased with the SP sport Maxx GT's on there, decent grip wet and dry and no complaints at wear as I'm just at 17k miles admittedly most of it gentle m-way work..... However, ringing round the local independents they are not able to get straight replacements. So I'm wondering if I should look at Goodyear F1's which are pricey at £140 - £145 each fitted, also been offered Falkens at £125....., possibly also considering Michelins? Do they do the Ps3's  in 19"? Appreciate any views on options please? I live in sunny Berkshire with a couple of good independents nearby.....
Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil, I can heartily recommend Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's. Very very good tyres. I paid £104 each (albeit 18") inc. vat fitted from Tyres On The Drive. Excellent service and very careful with the rims. The guy even let me get up into his van to watch him as he took the old tyres off the rims and fitted new ones :) because I'm paranoid about damage.

i'd still be heading toward the Michelin Super Sports on the 19s, not heard anyone of the F1 fanboys who have switched said they preferred them after

Only issue with the Goodyears is they are a very soft tyre and won't last that long compared to others.

On the other hand, the Michelin Pilot Sport 3s I had fitted to previous VWs after the OEM tyres wore out seemed to last well for a grippy and quiet tyre. Can't comment on the wear Supersports (which are available fully fitted for £151 a corner at Kwikfit when ordered online), but they are praised by all. If you're after a cheap premium 19" tyre, the Uniroyal Rainsport 3 is available for under £100 a corner if you shop around - excellent wet grip, a bit soft in the wear.

The PS3's are meant to be pretty gd, but just too expensive. Goodyear Eagle F1's for me.

I went for Conti Sport Contact 5's at £100 per corner. No complaints so far

I'm assuming everyone here talking £100 a corner is on 18" rubber?

You're looking at £140 a corner minimum for almost all decent 19" options, and for 19", the Michelin Pilot Supersports for £151 a corner (fully fitted) at your local Kwikfit seems to me to be the least hassle option - everyone has a Kwikfit near them.

+1 great tyre in wet and dry.  Maybe not the longest lasting or cheapest for 19's, but worth it imo.  mytyres.co.uk, camskill.co.uk and Blackcircles.com usually good on price.

...everyone has a Kwikfit near them.

Yes they do and I'd give them a wide berth if you value your diamond cut alloys

If you watch them like a hawk and let them know that your wheels are pristine coming in and you expect them that way coming out, i've never had any issues. Some of the other bandits that are authorised fitters for the likes of blackcircles etc however....

I'd personally get Costco to match the Kwikfit price.
