More Problems
« on: 25 November 2014, 06:37 »
Well its been 2 weeks at the dealers garage with 6 error reports on the touch screen, been an ongong problem with the car, and every time it comes back they said the softwear has been updated and should be fine now....

well 2 weeks ago, this popped up on the touch screen - ERROR - start stop system, stabilisation control (ESC),auto hold ACC & front assist not available, proactive passenger protection not available & tyre pressure monitoring system....

So the following morning I called the service manager and gave him 2 barrles, he said will you manage to pop over with the car??...my reply was get your arse in gear, and you come and pick the car up and by the way I will be needing a loan car....
give him his due a 64 plate GTD was at my door step in 45mins tho....but its ment to be delivered back to me today all fixed and no more errors.....they said they have set the car back to factory settings and replaced it with new data in the ECU, so will wait and see what it brings......and as a wee token for my trouble they have cleaned the car

My Gti PP has 9000miles clocked up since 20th Dec last year and the 1st signs of this problem started in Jan so its been an ongoing saga!!!...

With a gritty sponge no doubt.

That's a billable item on VW service work, they are allowed to charge 15 mins labour for a wash.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Rather than inputting new data into the ECU I would have demanded that they replace the whole unit. It sounds like a faulty ECU

I have just had my car in for the same errors, and i was told that they were caused by voltage faults and i was not using the car enough to charge the systems! you can imagine my reply

Not a happy bunny, but might be light at the end of the tunnel.......My Gti has been in the Dealers for near a month now and am getting very on the annoyed side...Heres yesterdays reply...

Hi Doug,

No verdict from telephone call from technical department today other than while our technician is at Milton Keynes next week for 3 days he will visit technical department with all data we have so far for discussion. We have now started the vehicle more than 100 times with no problems at all.

I have talked to Volkswagen UK with regards to procedure for vehicle exchange with the information received being we need to request Technical team member to visit the vehicle for inspection which is difficult to request with an issue that is not a failure of any parts, power etc. and as we've not as yet managed to re produce fault on site.

I do need to ask if anyone other than ourselves has ever carried out any type of work, diagnostics or software update on your GTi that could be informative to further help in diagnosing any fault?

This number of fault codes (in particular these specific ones) have been confirmed on a German forum I'm on to be caused by a faulty ignition switch.

This topic covers a sportsvan but it's the same stuff as on normal Golfs that's causing issue:

Surely this information would have transpired to VW UK by now???

In short.... number of people went to VW with all sorts of warning lights on in their dash (normally S/S, ACC, AH, FA, ESP...) of course VW could not find issue at first.

After a while (and probably VW tech visiting dealership) they found out that the issue was ignition switch. VW have then quarantined a batch of switches and not used them on production cars (used different batch or supplier from what I understand).

So VW factory knows that they had a batch of faulty switches....... and dealers then replaced them in cars that were affected and showing issues and so far the issues seem to have been resolved.

So I'd mention the ignition switch (could be chattering) to the dealer!

Hi Folks, well the saga goes on.......

Morning Doug,

Out technician is due back this morning but I did have a chat with him on his mobile last night to see how he got on.  He discussed the GTi with the technical tutor holding the course as well as talked to technical team member he's been in contact all along.

They discussed the email you had sent ref the ignition switch which they (technical team) have no knowledge of at all and explained to our Tech if that was the issue it would have a completely different fault code stored than the code sporadically recorded on your car.

The direction we have been given from that discussion is we are to inspect certain wiring to and from steering angle sensor and report back to Volkswagen UK technical  team. Depending on the results of that inspection the intention is then to authorise the replacement of the steering rack. The suggestion is there is a broken, squashed or crimped wire somewhere around the steering angle sensor which has not been able to be found so to replace the whole steering rack would then remove the needle in haystack scenario we find ourselves in.

Volkswagen UK technical team fully appreciate the frustration on all sides which is why they will authorise the replacement of steering rack.

In relation to the value of the car I can only assure you this will not have any effect on market value.

Once the wiring inspection has been carried out and further guidance form Volkswagen UK Technical team has been received I'll update you further.
