Interior light upgrade
« on: 25 October 2014, 14:39 »
Hello all,

I'm wanting to upgrade my interior lights: footwell lights, sun visor lights, glove box lights, boot light and all 5 roof lights as well, to white LEDs rather than the standard yellow bulbs. Was wondering if anybody would recommend any particular bulbs or suppliers that are of good quality, reasonably priced and won't bring up any warning lamps on the dash. Also does anybody know what type of bulbs they all are. Does anybody have a link that shows how to replace these bulbs too?

As well as this, I would like to upgrade my side lights (I have xenon headlights fitted), number plate lights and possibly fog lights too all from standard to white LED lights. Again, has anybody got any recommendations as to what I could fit and where to get them from that won't bring up any warning lights and be of a good quality.

All replies much appreciated and sorry about the essay haha :)

Interior lights are not monitored so won't throw up errors but just get any of the canbus error free one from ebay.  All much the same.

Bulbs required:

Vanity lights 36mm festoon (3 or 6 smd)
Map lights front and rear 501 T10 W5W (get the shorter ones otherwise they touch the light cover)
Glovebox  501 T10 W5W
Driver footwell  501 T10 W5W
Boot festoon 42mm

They have polarity and will only work if polarity is correct, so if they don't work at first, turn them around.

Thanks for the replies, that link will come in very handy. When you say get the shorter bulbs how will I be able to tell the difference between long ones or short ones? Will it just be a case of asking the seller?

You can tell from the pics, but to assist:

This type are best.  Shorter length and better brightness

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-X-ERROR-FREE-CANBUS-SUPER-W5W-T10-501-194-SMD-5-LED-SIDE-LIGHT-BULB-INTERIOR-/160943410073?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2578f98b99

Avoid this type.  Too long and touch light cover plus smd's too small  resulting in poorer brightness

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-ERROR-FREE-CANBUS-W5W-T10-501-LED-SIDE-LIGHT-BULB-8-SMD-HID-XENON-WHITE-/191171389005?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c82b3e64d

For the vanity lights, I preferred the ones with 6smd rather than 3smd, better brightness.

Cheers mate, don't worry about it, it happens to the best haha I'll probably order them ones you've posted and buy some decent ones for the vanity lights like you say. I'm going to go for red ones in the footwells too, I think they look very smart

Good choice, red footwell LEDs look great.  These are one's I went for:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221008248443?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D221008248443%26_rdc%3D1

And look like this:

Once they're fitted you might need to up the brightness % in the DIS

I'm definitely going for the red, they look really good. This night sound daft but what's the DIS and how do I access it?
