Turbo sound
« on: 01 October 2014, 00:35 »
I'm really tempted to get some sort of dump valve, will I get ripped to bits for doing this? :embarrassed:

Also I believe there is an updated diverted valve will this change the noise at all?

What kits / valves do people recommend?

I've looked at this out of curiosity, But long story short the answer is no if you want to do it properly.

And yes you will prob get a lot of people saying if you want it to sound like a scubby then buy one.

I'm not a mechanic but from what I've read I've worked out that basically the engine works out how much air is inside going to to the engine via MAF sensor and works out how much fuel to put in according to this.
If you have an open dump value that air is no longer in the system but the engine still thinks it is, so the air intake will let more air in to fill this missing air the MAF will think there is more air then there actually is causing you to get the wrong air/fuel mixture.

As I said that's only from what I've been ready, might be corrected a bit by more experienced people, as far as new DV go, you can buy uprated one, but if you wanna hear the turbo get a decent open cone induction kit

Obbzi this topic has come up before...in the other topic I mentioned how I sat in a MK5 with the Forge BOV.

All I can say is that after a while I could see it becoming boring, just think after every gear change or boost overrun air will be purged from the charge pipe.

The engine was designed to recirculate this air. Also the Forge BOV is a serviceable item, which could be annoying given it's position under the car on TSI engines.

That's my car, not excessively loud ( loud enough to make the kids at the bus stop stare as you drive past if this is what your looking for haha )

This is literally just a cone air filter and I'm really happy with it ( although I guess the guys on here will hate me for it haha )

This is on a 2.0 GT TDI and the video doesn't really do the sound any justice but hey ho haha!

If you want a car that has a loud burbling exhaust that goes wurrrrrm doshhhhhh every time you lift your foot of the pedal.. Then why not just buy a car that is designed to do this?

From experience a dump valve may sound good on a passing car or your mates car i.e. for a short while, but trust me it gets annoying after continuous use and everyday living !
Up to you though

Because I love my golf and I do thousands of miles a month in my dirty diesel hahaha, and something that makes them kind of noises aren't going to give me 60 MPG hahaha

So you do thousands of miles each month and still think you won't get annoyed with the sound after a month or so... I know I'd rather have a nice quite car if I was doing lots of long journeys every month.
