Sorry, I meant that's what I thought the dealers initial offer would be.

Hopefully that should do well, none of the ones last week were as high a spec as that & like I said they were 22-23K.

A pity the R's don't have the 19" wheels. They make the car for me..... otherwise the car looks a bit ordinary imo.

also from  your experience Matchboy, i know you went for a PCP but from all these lease deals on the R that are around I cant help but think that might be a good idea.

I think you'd probably get a cheaper monthly payment if you went for a lease, but I prefer doing a PCP so that I have some equity available for my next car.  Don't forget to get at least 10% off an R too!!

Orangewheels are currently offering 13% off new orders so may use that as a bit of a carrot.

So very tempted by the prospect of an R, on the assumption I would get £21k for my car and still be able to get 10% off the R. My GTD is vanilla, but the retention of optional equipment costs is poor, I wouldn't expect a car loaded with £3k options to be worth more than a grand more than a vanilla one at a year old.

I owe about £15k on my GTD right now - £6k equity in the GTD would put me right back where I was when I got it.

For those wanting to trade a GTI/GTD with Pro Nav and want it on the new one, they're probably far better off asking the dealer to swap the units over on a non-pro Nav equipped R than buying new.

My only concern about trading up to an R is wondering how long my commute might be in 9 months time when I need to find another job. I wouldn't want to be fuelling an R to potentially do an 80 mile round trip to work every day. Decisions, decisions.

The Sales manager promised me a "great deal" on my next car following the discovery of the transport pucks in my front suspension.

There seems plenty of stock about for the R, but assuming you were ordering from scratch, I wonder what the lead times are right now on an R, and how long they still are on GTIs and GTDs.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Questions questions questions!!!

Going to possibly wait until a little but later on this year but I really doubt the equity I started with and what I am owed will be the same so it's about negotiating the beat deal and Bham vw don't negotiate the way I like

Lead times apparently are January 2015 on gti and r. This is via a broker car life who advised that I sell privately as car is too new for their used car buyer and he said their dealer will quote me too low

Does that mean your GFV remains the same for both?  Dealers have a tendency to load up the deal at the back end to give the impression of similar monthly payments for the same duration with up to 30% deposit.

I'm not on VW finance, I borrowed £20k off my Dad at the rate his ISA was paying (2.8%). I pay him £410 a month, because that's what my last car cost and I wouldn't miss it and i'm paying the car off quicker. I owe my Dad about £15k right now, and i'm assuming the car is worth £21k = £6k equity.

I'm always aware of what GFVs are for a car I buy, just as a measure of worst case scenario p/x price, so I do measure GFV from time to time.
