MK7 GTI PRICES
« on: 16 September 2014, 07:27 »
How do you think the MK7 GTI residual values are holding out?

There seem to be a lot of demos or pre-reg available yet I have seen some strong prices recently.

Has anybody considered p/ex? If so were you pleased or disappointed with the valuation?

The initial valuation of my p/ex was, quite frankly, a joke.  I actually laughed in the bloke's face.  After some discussions, it was bumped up to a more realistic figure.  Which means they'll still make a profit when they sell it.  Residuals seem to be pretty good at the moment I think.

MB: how low are we talking here? Like £2/3k lower than where you ended up on the p/x? Usually there's nowt between 1 year old and 2 year old p/x prices, because for the 1 year old model the dealer wants to make £4k on it and still have it priced noticeably less than a moderately discounted new one.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

They offered me £3,000 less than where we ended up. I think they think you don't do any research before you turn up on how much your car is actually worth

£3k? They would've thought all their Christmas' had come at once if you'd have accepted that. Greedy b'stares. Good price on p/x and discount on the R? Worst case I'd be wanting £500 more than WBAC and broker price on the R, or any combination that gave the same price to change. Did you do better than that?

This is what I thought, some dealers are definitely trying their luck on p/ex values, my recent valuation jumped from £20K to £22K in a phone call after I said the deal would not happen @ less than £22K.

I have seen 63/14 plate GTIs as direct trade purchases for £23 -£24.5K (not high/fancy spec) which seems to leave two options of a high retail price or de-valuation of a part ex given the margins we know they want to make. It seems unlikely that a main dealer would ever offer that in part ex for the same cars.

Also all quotes I have been given include gap which I guess offsets the perceived higher part ex values given by £400-£500.

Changing cars is becoming hard work. :undecided:

@Schuey  Yes, they are really trying their luck with part ex figures.  I was offered £18,500 and told them I would not accept anything less than £21,500.  My mileage is higher than what it should be (17k) however the car is in impecable condition bar some stone chips.  I did my research into what similar cars were going for, allowed for a dealer margin, and then came up with £21,500.

What made me laugh was that in their forecourt they had a Mk 6 GTI on for £18,000 and they were offering me £500 more for my Mk 7.  When I pointed this out to the dealer his face was a picture

sorry interrupt you guys, I'm looking at trading up to a GTI or and R from my GTD within the next 6 months or so. what I was interested in is I have looked around on the Autotrader etc and it appears that similar spec GTDs are retailing at between 24500-26500. now I only have 8800 miles on mine. If I was to hazard a guess I should be looking at atleast 22000 on a PX or am I under/over estimating here.

I initially intended to pay the balance off early and then sell privately, however, I have just used all my money to buy a house so now, whilst the monthly's are easily affordable and within budget. I do not have the ability to pay ff the lump sum on the PCP. now I  think about it with hindsight as a new person to the world of PCP I may have put too much in to begin with so I am bound to lose out but I dont want to lose too much.

also from  your experience Matchboy, i know you went for a PCP but from all these lease deals on the R that are around I cant help but think that might be a good idea.

I want the best of both worlds a good deal and minimal input (money) to change. I have a client who has a Ind dealership in Birmingham and he said that he will put me in touch with his finance guy who is able to secure preferential rates so I may go down that route.

my head hurts from thinking about all of this. I have emailed my existing dealership Johnsons VW in Birmingham to see what they will offer but I know they will try and rip me off.

£20K would be my guess if its a manual with a few options.
