HELPPPP!!
« on: 18 August 2014, 18:50 »
Hey people, I need some serious advice on what to do with my MK5 Golf Gti Edition 30,
my engine is seriously overheating badly!
it sits at 90 for about 5 mile then rises and rises quick, I haven't ran it over 120 yet always turned it of to cool down,
first things first, Its bin to my local garage an had loads of bits done to try an solve this problem but I'm no further!
fans are working fine.
no excessive use of coolant.
no coolant leak.
no excessive use of oil.
no loss of power.
no excessive use of fuel.

its had a new Thermostat, Fuel pump, radiator, an all pipes flushed, an head gasket checked,
an its still overheating! I'm £500 down an still no fix!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks guys

ps. I did run it rather low on oil a few days before it started overheating, low enough to put the oil light on the dash,
I've bin told many times that this wont have anything to do with it but I'm still unsure, its abit coincidental.

thanks again guys

Looks like you've checked everything but the waterpump?

Get someone with VCDS to read the ECU for fault codes, and as mentioned you haven't looked at the water pump (which will also require a cam belt change really).

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Oil cools the engine as well as the water.....
Check your oil level and check your oil cooler both sides i,e water is flowing as well, might be a pita on the Mk5 I don't know.

Water pump is a very good shout, many have plastic impellers or soft metals which dissolve overtime in incorrect solution.

What about checking the engine temperature sensor, giving an incorrect reading. You've done about everything else.

Defo water pump syndrome, Impeller is spinning on its shaft, giving a restricted flow.

Would a water pump 2 months old fail?

It could do yes and if it has it should be warranty
