I thought I would bring this one back to life, I know there are a lot of guys who have swapped out to R's and a lot of new guys on the forum so interested to hear your thoughts.

I was never a big fan of my GTI, but I absolutely love my R. I would happily buy it again

If I were to buy a car again, I would definitely go for the new Renaultsport Megane. That was my option when I bought the GTI as well, but the price put me off as the GTI was cheaper and I also got a big discount through carwow. Also the GTI comes almost fully speced as standard while on the Megane RS I had to add a lot of optionals to get it to the GTI level.

A French car puts me off full stop

I've had my Megane 265 CUP for nearly 3 years and 120,000 miles and is still as fresh as the day I got her....a SUBLIME car to drive and very little matches it, yes build and refinement might not be up to VW standards but I'll never have a bad word said against them, I'll be really really sad to see her go for the new Golf GTI PP

I can't believe I missed this thread last year.
Must've either been when I was with Mickey Mouse or mid-house move soap opera. And what a soap opera that was.

Anyway, to rewind to when the thread went live - yes I'd have bought my PP GTI again. Loved it. Great car.
Possibly changed the spec a bit but not much.

I'd have been just as happy with a GTD though, in more or less the same spec.
(White, Nav, park assist, RVC) obviously no PP on a GTD so sport and sound pack would've been ticked.
If anything I'd have binned the Nav maybe?

Fast Forward 12 months - my R - love that too. Amazingly capable car all packaged up in a Golf bodyshell.
Mine wasn't a factory order, or indeed a planned purchase so it was a case of take it as it comes.
If ordering from the factory I'd have maybe added RVC and possibly 19's but unsure on the latter.
My MK6 rode fine on 19's but the MK7 less so.

All in all I'm pretty happy with my choices.

yup..it has been faultless

I fully intend to get another when my 3 years is up for this one

change of colour and some rear doors

The R does keep calling to me...but in reality the Gti PP is all the performance I require and its dirt cheap for me to insure..so in practical terms its a no brainer for me....wifes work just signed a deal with LEX so will see what they can do as its a fully managed lease, maintenance and insurance all in..discounted as they are all part of Lloyds now...but I suspect its for more mundane cars
3dr Gti, manual, tornado red, performance pack, dynaudio. gone now

5dr GTi, manual, red, Performance pack, dynaudio
going

5dr Gti, Manual, performance pack , indium grey (for a change!)

Yes, unless something amazing comes out or my work dick me around with the lease scheme, I'll have another for sure.

I'll be changing my spec slightly, now that I actually understand what the various bits do (learnt from both using what I have and reading this forum!).

That actually narks me a bit - the lack of genuine information about the (expensive) options prior to order :-/

Probably will change from LSG to something else though, just so it feels like a new car next time. Maybe silver next time or perhaps something else - but I don't like dark colours.

With 18 months left on my lease and the stupid VW lead times, I'd better place my order now!

Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

Yes I would buy my 5-door GTI PP again.

For me it offers a perfect balance between performance, practicality and price. Also really like the heritage and character of the GTI.

There's also only one other GTI in my local neighbourhood, but at least a dozen Rs making the GTI just a touch more exclusive. Which I like.

My GTI has been a fantastic all rounder.... Would I buy it again? No..... I fell out with it as soon as I test drove the R.

It's now for sale and I collect my new S3 in a few weeks. VW were pathetic when it came to doing a deal on an R and wanted huge deposit and stupid monthlys. Was about to order a lease R then I managed to get a fully loaded 18 month old S3 for same as I'm paying on the GTI with £1500 in cash. Can't wait.

The Mrs has got a new GTD so will still get to drive around in a Golf

I love mine but wish I'd waited a couple of weeks before ordering so that I could have got a BW22 car. The money I spent on Discover Navigation could have instead gone towards Lane Assist and Car-Net App Connect. Would also swap Park Assist for the full Parking Pack.

Still at least its 5dr DSG Nav which were my essentials, having had 3 in a row that spec!

Having said all that, I might go for a Scirocco next if the new model is out, or a TT if they re-introduce the TDI S-Tronic.

Park assist isn't an option it's standard isn't it?
