Came from back to back A3 Quattro 3 Door but the inconvenience of 3 door finally beat me and just do not like the A3 in Sport Back guise.
The VW Golf MK7 looked great in 5 door at time and that swayed me and 10 months on still gives me satisfaction when glance towards it.
The DCC and DSG in combination with really nice cabin has made this a great car to drive and honestly love it with the performance/mileage balance.
Considering we all had nothing to compare to as early MK7 owners there has been no hindsight to feeling like should have made another choice.
However am already thinking at next car.
Plan to keep the GTD so that covers the family car with good fuel economy so that gives me licence to just have my car that has less need to be sensible and that leaves me between the S3 and the Golf R and its 55-45 in favour of the Lapiz Blue R with the DSG and DCC now so used to and the reason being is that the A3 comes up as bare specification in manual against many of the standard R features.
Think the S3 looks better in 3 door and everyone recognises the S3 badge as meaning a little more with them 4 exhausts.
The R means little to the uninitiated and only the 4 exhausts make it stand apart from GTD and GTI and there is good argument both look better overall.
However that's not overly important to me as its the initiated that you tend to think to more and the most important feeling is your own. I would be very happy with 300 BHP and 4WD (one thing do miss in the wet)
To be honest S3 in any form or Golf R is hardly lose no matter which way go so not something going to worry about and just going to keep enjoying the GTD which is a great drive and still gets many looks.
