I test drove a red one before ordering mine and I wasn't impressed at all. It's an individual choice at the end of the day, some love red some don't.

Was that the colour or the hateful DSG box?

Tornado red was the one thing that wasn't in doubt when I bought mine, as both the demo that I was considering or the factory order that I eventually went with were going to be red.

I think the red tones in nicely with the red stripe across the grille and headlights, the side badges, and the red stripes in the tartan on the seats.

I did come from a red car, with a black roof and red & black seats, so perhaps not a surprise I chose red

The TR demo me and mcmaddy demoed was very dull - seemed like it had never been washed and definitely had no polish/sealant/wax on it. Good cleaning products really can make the red glow in most lights.

Red does look stunning when properly cared for. My only concern about it is, if you take a walk at night under the street lights, you can spot all the red cars that have had panels painted as they stand out like a sore thumb. I know we don't plan on crashing  but its just stuck with me ever since I bought my first car that was red years ago, it looked in superb condition then come night time it appeared 2 tone

Also a lot of the plastic panels (bumpers) don't actually match and that's from the factory, again the street lights really highlight this. This isn't necessarily exclusive to Golfs, I just mean cars in general.

@Jackie:The "golden" LSG pics that were linked earlier are not shopped. The owner took the pictures in the late evening with the sun going down, hence the brownish look.

And as mentioned earlier the colour changes a lot depending on the light conditions, which in my opinion is the fascinating thing about the colour.

I personally think that the lighter colours suit the new GTI pretty well as it makes the whole outline of the chassis stand out more.

You won't get that with black, CSGM etc.

I can only advise to try and find a dealer who has a LSG Golf and check out the colour in reality as pictures won't do it justice.

Problem I had is that the dealers at least over here in Germany only ever had the standard red, white and CSGM, took me ages to find a dealer with a LSG.

Hope you manage to find the perfect colour for you and your new ride!

Greetings from Germany,
LimestoneGTI

Thanks limestonegti, and thanks all.

i really appreciate the feedback even though its a subjective thing its good to have comments and pictures.

i intend to keep the car for 10yr, my last 3 cars i have owned for less that 2year each, but the VAG car before that i had for ten years and this is the plan for this car. How will the colour fair on the second hand market jn 10yr time? Who knows i guess. Will it be a rare GTI colour like the light met blue mk2 gti years ago? Or, as most will be, red ,white and CG, the LSGM will be something no one wants?

i know I'm not buying a new car for the next owner in ten years time, But just thinking out loud...

Guess its really hard to predict what the market will be like in a couple of years time when it comes to the colours.

A couple of years back no one ever wanted white, and these days you see a lot of white cars again.

But who knows how this trend will change in the future?

The only colours who seem to be somewhat stable is the classic silver/grey tones.

I personally wouldnt factor this in at all for my decision. You got to live with the colour for 10 years and you will regret picking a colour you dont like a 100%, just because it might sell for 200 pound more in ten years time. :smug:

Couldn't agree more, LimestoneGTI. Someone buying your car in 10 years time won't be putting colour at the top of their list of priorities. They'll be much more interested in how it's been looked after and maintained than whether it's red or grey.

Choose the colour you want, and enjoy it!

Yeah fair points,  Limestone Grey it is...

The more i look at the colour the more it changes in each picture.  Someone said earlier it seems to draw a lot of reflections from other things.

Like this video, some parts look bronze some panels look grey blue, weird.

These pics sealed it for me.

Will email the dealer today and ring tomorrow morning to change colour
