1.8T 180 Vacuum/breather hoses
« on: 22 July 2014, 07:42 »
Hi everyone, I'm new to the GTi forum. I have recently purchased a 1.8T 180 AUQ, the previous owner has dropped in an induction kit and done a poor job of installing a catch can.
In the process of installing the catch can they have left various connections either plugged with a bolt of some description or just left open.
I want to put the engine bay back to standard as I'm worried about how the engine is being effected.
I have all the original breather hoses to re-install but unfortunately I haven't a clue where they all go.
Would it be possible for
someone with the same or very
similar engine to take photos of their engine bay and post them
on here so that I have some photos to work off when re installing all the hoses?
I could do with detailed photos of the inlet manifold, header and the area around the stock recirculating valve.
I will post some pictures of how it currently looks, any feedback welcome.
Thank you in advance

Thanks for the pics!

Finally for round to sorting it all this evening. I have to say the engine seems to run a lot quieter and smoother without the catch can in.
Checked all the pipe work that was installed with the catch can and it was almost totally blocked with gunk, I suspect the tubing was too small to begin with.

The previous owner had also bypassed the N249 valve, I've left this as it was because everything I have read points towards a much smoother application on boost.

Installed my boost gauge today as well, boost is hiding steady at around 0.6 bar, sounds about right as standard psi is 7-8.

I've ripped out the induction kit and put the air box back in with a performance filter, seems to have done the trick, engine was suffering with the heat produced from the engine and the hot weather as the standard intercooler isn't exactly the biggest on this car.
