Hello guys,

I have a mk4 gti 1.8 (aum) and the block has now got a nice hole in it, what i was wondering is can someone tell me what I would have to do to fit an AGU engine?

I have the loom and ecu for the agu.

Take it to a garage.

I already work in a (specialist) car garage. I'd just like someone who knows VW's rather than someone who only works on a car that isn't a VW specialist.

Why don't you just get a new block or repair it?

Seems alot of work to go from an AUM to an AGU.

Plenty of threads on the forum about conversions however its the first I have seen where some has went from an AUM to an AGU unless there looking for big pony's.

Why don't you just get a new block or repair it? Your taking the engine out anyway if you are wanting to put an AGU...Seems pointless to me.

Id be more concerned about how it cracked in the first place, you don't want to repair it and then the same thing happen, what spec is the car ?

I agree in terms of an engine swap is a big job not to mention insurance too
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

A con rod may have snapped, then that has smashed into the block at high speed creating the hole.

Just get it rebuilt or drop another AUM engine in

Hello guys its Becky's boyfriend,

the car was running 190 ish on a remap and other bits and pieces.

I work in a specialist Porsche garage so not to fussed how much work is needed to get it fitted as it will end up being high power, we're just wondering what needs to be done (i.e modifiction work) to get an agu fitted.

The car itself detonated on decelaration thats what threw us because we wern't even gunning it at the time.

Before the engine goes in it will get all new ancilliaries and pretty much a rebuild at the same time.

The engine will have a standard setup to begin with but making slow and progressive improvements.

also another thing people say you shouldn't run a reserc on an aum, how true is that as this engine had a bailey fitted could this be the cause?

Also am i right in thinking the AGU engine has the forged internals?

Cheers for the help and advice so far guys!!

P.S will also get photos once the engine is out, possibly thinking of converting it into a coffee table ;)

Non of the 1.8t come with forged internals from factory. All 1.8t should run a recirculating diverter valve unless mapped for atmospheric dump valve.

If you're going for big power it doesn't matter what engine you go for if you're going to change all the internals anyway but I would advise you to keep the AUM ecu, sensors and loom. So with that in mind I would suggest getting a bare block, any 1.8t block with internal water pump, build it up with your choice of internals, inspect and slap the AUM head on it and drop it back in. Done.

Quite a few have gone 2.1 stroker and recommend it for larger frame turbos, integrated engineering are a good vendor to buy from, badger5 are an official UK distributor for integrated engineering, purchased from him before and I highly recommend him.
