Thanks for the pics and comments. Still slightly undecided. The only night blues I have seen have been briefly, and have looked flat, but some of the photos on here look great.

Lots of love on here for the CSG. That was the other choice which we seriously considered - I think it works well with the red stripe. My wife thought it looked a bit dull though.

Realistically, the car will get a quick wash reasonably often, but not polished all that often. I do wonder whether that will be enough to keep the night blue looking good, or whether the red will look better with less effort.

Annoyingly, red was a no brainer for me on the Mk6, but I don't love it quite so much on the Mk7 - something about that stripe on the Mk7 doesn't work quite so well on the Mk7 for me! Argh!

I guess that at the end of the day, I'll be happy with either given how hard I am finding it to choose! It's a shame that VW have such a small range of colours for the GTI.

If your not really into detailing and you want the car to remain looking in reasonable condition then you should really be considering lighter colours as they mask any marks and swirls far better than the darker shades

I've learnt that from owning a black Scirocco. Cleaned often, but showing the marks now. I'll be spending a bit of time over the summer holiday polishing it up. I'm hoping that the night blue might be slightly better. I'm also going to be better behaved - I now wash with two buckets and getting a mitt instead of a sponge which will hopefully help a bit.

Night Blue owner here and very happy with my choice. However it needs to be kept clean to look its very best, but surely that applies to most colours ? Mine gets a wash every couple of weeks (no detailing as such, just a bucket of warm water with car shampoo and a pressure washer for the wheels etc) and it comes up as new every time !

I went from Diamond Black Pearl on my MK5 to Tornado Red on my MK7. I'm not a dedicated detailer, I just don't have the time or inclination to do it religiously. When I do it I do it right, and DBP is an incredibly satisfying colour to work with, much more so than Tornado Red. However, and it's a big however, it looks good for much much longer. In my experience my car still looks pretty good 3 - 4 weeks after a wash, compared to 2 days with DBP!

Mk7 GTD's look good in red but for some reason GTI's less so.
The first MK7 GTI I ever saw was in red and I didn't like it but I often see red GTD's and know that if I'd had bought one I'd have picked red in an instant. So it must be something to do with the red stripe and the wheels on the GTI.

I had an Imperial Blue Leon Cupra about a million years ago and that put me off dark blue forever. Every tiny spec of dust that settled onto that car seemed to mark it. Never again!

And so, for me, there were two choices for the MK7 GTI - white or Carbon. I chose white as that's what VW use in their press shots so it must suit the car well - that's all I had to go on as there were practically no MK7 GTI's in the UK around when I ordered mine.

But in retrospect I'd have done for a Tungsten Silver 5 door instead of a white 3 door.

IMO - The GTD's look brilliant in night blue, and the GTI looks brilliant in red. (I know I'm biased but I chose red because it's my favourite!)

The silver highlights of the GTD really compliment the Night Blue, and the red highlights on the GTI really compliment the Tornado Red IMO.

Here are a couple of pics of my TR GTI... Mega bright out in the sun...

Really dark glassy look in the shade...

I have however detailed it within an inch of it's life and will maintain it. It doesn't look great dirty but no colour really does.

If you want something that will hide the dirt slightly, look to CSG, Reflex Silver or Tungsten... All great colours.

Definitely very subjective.
I had a dilemma between CSG and White.
CSG for me is awesome when clean as it is one of those colours that really pops.
It took me from Christmas when I decided I was ordering the GTD to February before finally settling on White but even then I kept changing my mind.
It was pictures on here that someone posted of CSG and the colour was totally lifeless. I know pictures don't do cars justice but it was enough for me to make my mind up.

Ironically when I picked my GTD up I asked the dealer not to prepare it so it was rather dirty looking and there in the showroom polished to an inch of its life was a GTI in Carbon looking stunning

So like others have said, if you are prepared to put the work in to make it pop then go for it.

Red is nice but I just think the red stripe is totally lost on it. And now they have red GTI badges that for me against a red car will just look like something from Halfords. It looks great on any other car but just not red for me.

remember seeing Milltek's Night Blue GTI last year and loved the colour compared to shadow blue
