Chip and stainless exhaust, your advice please.
« on: 17 June 2014, 13:05 »
Hi, I want to get a stainless exhaust fitted to help my M reg GTI 16v MK3 breathe more freely. Can anyone recommend a good system? Not loud but just well put together and a few more BHP.

Also once done I want to get the car chipped / remapped. Any advice as to who best to do this and what sort of power increase I could expect to see?

I'm based in London but happy to drive out to fitter. Thanks!

:)

You will get similar answers but my suggestion would be a scorpion exhaust if not go for Jetex. you can get a chip of eBay that some members can vouch for.

Thanks Wherry, what chip would that be and how do I go about getting it fitted? I don't have the skills or tools to fit a chip myself so would need to take it to a workshop. Cheers.

I have a jetex non resonated system and have no complaints. The chip is easy to fit

yourself if you take your time and its a push fit. Go on u tube, there is a complete

guide on there how to do it which I followed.

Here is the seller which I and most of us bought from. Probably get about 2-3 hp

What does that chip actually do ? I presumed all those cheap chips just over fuel the car

What results have people got from it? Any noticeable difference when driving in terms of performance or fuel?

Sorry for the minor thread hijack

The chip will alter ignition timing and fueling, power delivery should be smoother, the rev limit may be slightly higher depending on the program, mpg can also increase when driven sensibly, gains can be anything upto around 7 bhp with just the chip

I love my chip and noticed an improvement.  I then fitted my lightened flywheel and my car felt totally different

Out of curiousity, as I've been contemplating getting this particular chip, does it help around the 1k to 3k rpm rev range?

When you get your chip and need it fitted.
I'm in Basingstoke and can install the chip and recode for immobiliser with VAGCOM if needed.
I had to solder the chip in my 8v but the 16v just pushes in with no soldering.
So far I have chiped my A4 and both Golf GTI's + 4 other vw's with chips from POWERCHIPS CZ on ebay and had no probs so far.
They sell 2 chips for the 16v so make sure you give them the correct ECU number mine was 5WP4237.
If it is 5WP4304 you would have to find out if it is push fit or soldered.
New toy1990 Scirocco I feel a 16v conversion coming on.
