Fitted a vr to a mk3 golf. Got ecu, clocks, key chip, loom etc. Anyway its all in but car starts then cuts out. Put genuine vag com onto it and came up with different key used. Now my mate says that i need the maching transponder box to get the car started. Can anyone confirm that.
i also rang a bloke who does this and he is saying that he want 100 to pair it. I feel like the guy is bending me over backwards and trying to f*ck my ars3hole

My mate shorted and cooked his 8v ecu a while back ( ithink i posted about it then ).

I got him an ecu,reader,transponder and chip off ebay for £50 and he fitted the chip and ecu as soon as it arrived.

Car started straight away and then died.Turned out he needed the transponder as well.

Once he fitted that the car ran fine,no idea why this is but i guess you need the transponder as well.

Ok there seems to be some confusion with what a transponder is. Some say the transponder is the small chip in the key others say its the black box behind the clocks that translates the code read from the chip to the ecu.

Yep you need both.

A transponder is something that transmits a signal... the box in dash the the immobiliser control unit.

You need both for the system to work but the mk3 immobiliser is so simple all you need is the login pin - then you can marry any compatible transponder chip to it.
