Front seat belts

The passenger seat belt must be pristine on most cars whereas the driver's side is well worn - mine is anyway. Has anybody tried to cannibalise a left and right hand seat belt to swap the LH belt onto the RH mechanism?

Without going into the garage to look at my car, is there a difference between the left and right hand belts?

The rears are different as they are mounted at an angle and they won't unwind if they are not in the right position. The reels on the fronts mount vertically, so I can't see what difference it being fitted on the other side would make.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

There is a difference on a more door like mine. ETKA lists LH and RH for five door cars but only lists one for the three door.
