Have just been looking at this lot here

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4062.html

Seems like a good deal. I might pop out to my local sextons actually and have a chat with them! See if they can do me a decent deal. Only problem with that is I wont be able to just cut and paste a link to whatever they say to get you guys opinions on it!!!! What am I meant to do, actually make a decision on my own!!

OK then, been to sextons and guy was most unhelpful, didnt seem too interested in me as I obviously wasnt going to be spending big money, and when asked questions usually responded with a mere "Yeh thats ok". Pretty sh1t to be honest, wish I'd just rung hium up now, made the effort to go down to the shop and it got me no where. He just pointed me towards the bottom of their range and said thats ok, but not great, for 125 quid, and the next model up is over 200 quid.

So back to searching online, can anyone just tell me what specifications I'm looking for? I'm thinking lower peak and higher RMS is better on the sub right?

Meaning this one

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4062.html

with peak 1000w and RMS 400 powered by a nice big 800w amp would be quite a good one to go for??

Also what difference does excursion make? And what is the figure in the specs of amps given in ohms???

Any help would be much appreciated, my head feels like its about to explode!!!

No offence to anyone here Oz but register and ask on talkaudio.co.uk, i've met quite a few of them and a they know their stuff
Personally I would go for a 12" sub - it's a good alround size and generally nowadays you can get 12/15s etc that are as fast as a 10 or a 10 that can go as low as a 15. Also if you can go to their Exchange and look for 2nd hand gear, you can pick up some seriously good gear at very cheap prices.
Build your own box or boxes, again post up what sub and it's parameters on talkaudio and someone will give you a guide of what size box to build, huge difference to how good a sub can sound if it's in the right box, if it's in the wrong box it will sound sheeite.

Look into Arc Audio subs and Rockford amps mate

And Sextons..............

I'll agree with that, well at least my local branch, not the on that Dizzie works at  know what I mean Gaz!

I take it that my system was a bit £Â£ then Tim? I personally would recommend a 10" JL sub, as they seem to be (in my experience) bloody awesome, and if you're a 'rock head' then a 10" will suit your ears a treat, but still allowing you to manipulate the sub under dance music conditions.

What head unit are you using, as this also can be the deciding factor? If you're using an old headunit without a sub out then it makes it difficult to change the subwoofer settings, but not entirely impossible as some kenwood amps come with a remote level control. It may be prudent to speak to Dizzie, see if he can point you in the right direction, and the best combination for your money.

Have got a pretty recent pioneer h/u, something like the deh mp7350, has a sub out and lots of controls to change the sub levels.

J_s, thanks for that, may go and check out the second hand stuff!!

It's a JL12w6, I think it's got a 12-13" depth too.
