1.4 brake upgrade

Hi all, ive just got myself a 1.4se

ive been offered a mk4 golf 288 set up (calipers, carriers, discs, pads) cheap by a friend and i was wondering if they would fit.

Am i right in thinking i will need to upgrade to 5x100 hubs before i can fit these, If so what else is needed other than the hubs.

Any help welcome.

You dont need them mate. Only thing they will do is slow you down due to the extra unsprung weight. 

A decent pad is all you need.

I will add yes you need to go 5 stud but also they wouldn't bolt directly on, you would either need to space the carrier to get the offset right or only use the calipers and pads and use mk3 gti carriers and discs

oh and you would also need new brake hoses as they use banjo fittings

Simply not worth the effort of installing the long list of parts needed unless you're planning to change the engine as well.

could anyone begin to list the parts i need so i know what im up against.

I know i probably dont need them but is it a silly thing to say you want bigger brakes not just for performance

Waste of time for a 1.4 current brakes are more then enough.

Well you can either go 5 stud mk3 set up or go for 280mm G60 spec mk2 brakes..
neither option is cheap, but the mk4 set up wont fit without lots of spacers and you still need the 5 stud conversion

id prefer 5 stud option as it makes wheel choice easier too  Thought id just ask about the mk4 set up because it was offered to be cheap by a friend.
