Engine management light on
« on: 24 May 2014, 09:13 »
Tried to pull away from a junction today and the car was coughing and spluttering and wasn't really pulling away. Now when you try to accelerate it is doing this all the time and the eml is now staying on. Any easy suggestions ?

It'll have thrown up a fault code so you'll have to retrieve it from the ECU memory. Now before you think you have to go and spend money on Vagcom i have a handheld scanner that picks up the fault codes with the description that was had for i think £26 to the door from Amazon.

Sounds like a coil pack, VCDS would narrow it down to which one if you can get it scanned.

Managed to borrow a snap on diagnostic machine, it came back with p0301 cylinder 1 misfire detected. Reset faults and swapped cylinder 1 and 2 coil packs and the fault didn't log again but car is still lumpy.was there a recall on the coil packs for 2009 models ?  I'm planning on just swapping over one coil pack or should I change all of them and spark plugs ? Anyone got the part numbers

Now realised that I swapped 3 and 4 over   so now swapped 1 and 4 then reset the fault. Took it a run then the eml light came on. Plugged it back in now it says multiple cylinder misfire. Is this because I've been swapping the faulty one about it's confused ? Any help is much appreciated, how much are coil packs from vw
