Parking sensors

So got in my car yesterday and my parking sensors just made a high pitched beep, weren't working and the light by the gear stick was flashing. Has anyone else experienced this? Think they are broken :-(

Surprised no one else has had this issue. Bit worried now! Car is out of warranty

Not got parking sensors but i'm an aircraft electrician possibly there could be a short/water ingress somewhere kind of a shot in the dark but a sensible one

Its usually just one sensor that has failed

VCDS should be able to pinpoint which one

Nooo check out the VCDS user location on the forum

Or consider investing in it yourself. You soon get your money back by not visiting the stealers. Plus you can help out local people for beer tokens  :wink:

So stealer tells me the fault is either with the control unit or one of the front sensors. They want £230 to do more tests. I told them to jog on! Luckily they didn't charge me anything as they didn't actually carry out any work apart from plugging it in to a diagnostics machine. Can't believe this doesn't pin point the problem. Oh well just have to go old school and actually look where I'm reversing ha ha!

Try an auto electrician! I had a problem with my parking sensors on my old merc and the independent specialist wanted £140 to fix it, took it to this auto electrician who fixed it for £15. Might be worth a try.

£230 !!...No chance !

If they think that possible issue/test would be that of a single sensor then you could do this yourself. Press sensor button and test each sensor by standing away and using a long stick to 'activate' each one individually.
If that fails then maybe an internal sensor issue, but defo not for £230 !!!

When I had my E46 parking sensor failures were a comon feature of ownership. One way of telling if they worked was that the sensors emited a clicking noise whilst in operation so it was easy to listen for the one which wasn't working.

I don't know if VW ones work the same but it maybe worth checking.
