HELP!!
« on: 16 April 2014, 22:38 »
Golf mk 3.5 avant garde convertible 2.0 Y reg.

Runs perfectly until it gets fully warmed up, then starts cutting out. Only happens after it has been running half an hour with the motor working, such as going along a motorway. Then the motor cuts, and the rev counter dies. It falters and dies, but as soon as it cools off a bit it works fine again.

I'm hoping this is such a specific fault it has a likely explanation.

wrong forum section, but sounds like the fuel pump if you have a petrol. I had an old Ford Granada that did the exact same thing.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Next time it does it you can eliminate 2 of the above by :-

1,lift up the boot carpet and get someone else to turn the ignition on but don't turn the engine over. Can you hear the fuel pump priming ?.If not it's probably the fuel pump relay.

2, take the centre lead of from the distributor and hold it about 3 inches away from the engine block/head.Turn engine over and see if it sparks.

If i remember correctly, ecu relay is number 30,fuel pump is 167 but double check that as i may have them the wrong way around

I suppose it could also be the coil pack itself as they are notorious for failing
