I took out a small amount of finance to get 2 free services on both mine and my wife's mk6 with the intention of paying off straight away.

But the experience of trying to get through to VW Finance on both occasions to pay up early was so horrendous and traumatizing (deliberate on there part I feel) that I would almost choose to do without the free services next time.

I reflected I was being too principled Mustard. You've made me feel better now

£38k wow. Now I'm really pleased with my little deal.  That's the point I was trying to make, IMO at least, when our MK6 was parked next to the equivalent MK7 it didn't look dated at all and was as much if not more of a head turning car than the newer model.  Opinions vary and people should spend/enjoy their money - legally - as they see fit.

I had a quick sit inside this MK7 R at the weekend, but with the spec I want it would be nearly £38K. I'm more than happy with my 35 and it looked really good parked next to the R, not out of place or dated. More customers were looking towards my car than the R when they walked past. IMO it needs 19s fitted.

Nice pics of the R but it definitely needs the 19s (and to be black ).  Overall, I still think mk6s look better than mk7s, particularly the gti.

Your spec price is same as mine which is why I need discount to be nudging 10%, and will probably have to factor in next year's April price increase too!

Well, I test drove the Mk6 R this morning and really liked it. Only 6500 miles so it felt brand new. But at £25k on a March 12 plate I felt it was still way too expensive to justify a £14k or so cost to change.
For that £25k I could be looking at a new Mk7 GTi but I reckon I'm going to wait another or so and look at the Edition 40 or a nearly new Mk7 R.
They had all three Mk7s in the car park by the way (GTi, GTD and R) and I though the GTi in black was the nicest of the three. The R was too subtle and didn't remotely look like the £38k car the salesman said it was. And I also seem to remember having the discussion on here about price when the Mk6 came out but £38k for a Golf is just too much. Completely unjustifiable.
I've set myself a limit of £25k next year and intend to stick to it. No Golf is worth more than that in my opinion, especially when you can pick up 135s starting at that price.

a lot of money for a 12 plate I agree but I have seen 40000 milers for over 20 grand so they must be holding there value

What dictates the values of nearly new cars tho'? The dealers? Price them too low and they'll not be able to sell new cars on the pretense that they'll hold their money.

It would be interesting to know what that 12 plate .:R was written back too. Not much above £20k would be my guess.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Hi all
I have on order a new mk7 5door pure white, and expecting delivery early June.
Got a very good deal trading in my immaculate 10 reg 27000 mile red GTi.
Got top book price and £1000 off list price.
Selling privately would involve test drives, possibly being without a car for some time or not selling current car before arrival of the new one.
Also worry of large sum of cash involved in a transaction with a stranger.
