Headlight question
« on: 13 April 2014, 22:28 »
Hi, I bought my car with some HID headlights already installed, and from what i can tell, they are awful. Im not sure if it's just because they aren't correctly adjusted, or if it is just a really bad bulb.

So the first question is how do i adjust these headlights properly? (i have tried to adjust them using the white allen key bolts, but it didn't seem to make much difference. Is there something i can do on my Vag Com to adjust them? or is it a manual job? (dipped beam)

My second question is that the full beam is barely what my dipped beam used to be on my old car, and it is also circular (when on the beam just creates an illuminated circle in front of me).

Right now I'm just looking for a way to fix this as it is quite dangerous to drive with the headlights as they are.

Also, how would i go about fitting oem bulbs again? is it a straight fit, or is there anything that i need to change? i've noticed that it looks like there is additional wiring with these current lights.

Thanks, Mo

When you say HID headlights, do you mean bulbs or a complete HID unit?

Just two bulbs i believe - one each side, on for the dimmed lights.

- actually, i think its the side lights, dipped beams and fog lights, i'll get a picture up tomorrow of it.

I would cut out all of the new wiring and fit halogen bulbs (as are standard), problem you may have is if the bulb holders have been removed? Also come MOT time if there is not a good beam pattern, it is a fail.*Remember not to touch the glass on any bulb you intend to fit. Good luck

it's just passed its mot, somehow... the pattern is atrocious...

Could someone direct me to oem halogen bulbs? all i can seem to find are these aftermarket bulbs.

edit - are these the correct bulbs?

Try powerbulbs or autobulbs direct website and get some osram nightbreakers, they are E marked so road legal and are brighter than almost all other legal bulbs. If you bought the car and it had already been MOTd I would be very suspicious, because the test equipment picks up on poor beam pattern.

guessing u have a mk4, its H1 for Full beam and H7 dipped no one really fits standard bulbs as there sh!t, better of getting a popular bulb thats been tested like osram and philips

Thanks, I'll get some osram bulbs soon, and here's the pictures of the headlights you wanted.

Also, I have managed to adjust the passenger side headlight, but the drivers side seems to not do anything.
