To add to the situation - Was driving down a bumpy country road tonight, lights started to flicker, the excess wiring came loose and had fallen down onto the fan belt... No idea why there was so much excess, but i have now bought the osram nightbreakers, H1 and H7

Are the original bulb holders still intact?
If so cut away the wiring to the HID harness, cut the wires individually, so not to short circuit.
Tape over any bare wires with insulating tape.
Remember do not touch the glass on your new bulbs or they will blow.

You shouldn't need to cut any wires to take a HID kit out

Depending on how they have been wired? Sounds as though it may have been a cowboy job?

I'm failing to see how you've come to that conclusion. All he's said is that the light output is poor, they're probably cheap eBay bulbs and are in non-projector headlights so I'm not surprised.

As Wazzzer says, he won't need to cut any wires.

MoMartin - Pop the rear cover off the lights and take a picture of any wires that go into the headlamp from the ballast.

This is the wiring that was fitted, it's a simple plug and play job, can someone tell me if this is stock wiring though, because right now, this wiring is f*cked

That is all wiring that would have come with the HIDs, not stock wiring.

Have you taken the bulbs out as well?

Update - do I need a new bulb holder for the stock bulbs again?

This is the current bulb holder / wiring
