How much to change a Starter Motor in Bristol?
« on: 26 March 2014, 22:17 »
I have a problem with my 2.0l GTI, when i start the engine the starter motor makes a whirring/grinding noise which lasts about 2 seconds. I've done some research and it's quite a common apparently, And it means you either need to completely replace the SM or just take it off and give it a good clean and lube before putting it back in. Problem is i know nothing about cars/mechanics. So was wondering what i would be looking at to have this done by someone? I'm in Bristol if anyone can be recommended.

£100 for the starter, and possibly another £100 to change it.

I would avoid Graham Batts near Temple Meads as their customer service and quality have taken a nose dive.

I had a look earlier but i still don't trust myself to do it. I'd rather start off with something a bit simpler.

To be fair ksab if your going to start somewhere then a starter motor is perfect.

2 Bolts, 1 power cable and a electrical plug and its out. You cant really go wrong with it.

Look on youtube like Barry says and your 90% there.

Get yourself a pair of these as you will need them again owning a Golf
