boost loss?
« on: 07 March 2014, 11:57 »
Bit of a mystery this one. I had a new K250 put on the other day which came with an uprated actuator and everything was fine, but now I can only hit 10-11 psi boost and can't get the bhp over 177, when it should be hitting 19-20 psi boost and 235 + bhp.

I can't find any boost leaks in the pipes at all, can't hear any boost leak and there are no codes on the ecu at all!

any ideas what else to check? what else could cause the boost pressure to drop so much other than a leak?

BAM injectors, Turbosmart Boost Gauge, BBS CK Wheels, 312mm Brembo front discs and pads, Carbon canister delete and last of all, a liquid cube!

sounds like its running without the map... has it been like this since the 250 was fitted or did the drop in power happen more recently
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

The K250 was fitted Monday just gone, everything was fine, it even hit 246bhp according to my liquid cube device. I have not had it mapped in because you don't need to. I went stage 2 remap before Christmas.

The other day I was driving it and had a clear road so I thought I would see what the bhp was like, when all of a sudden it stopped feeling like it was pulling. Since then it has only managed 10-11 psi!

Id check the boost pipes again, check the DV etc.

Nightmare when you get an issue that's hard to diagnose as I am too.

What is the issue you have at the moment?

Do you think it could be the actuator, would that cause a boost issue if it wasn't set properly

Is it an uprated actuator as in a Forge or something? what colour spring?

My turbo is buggered too

The actuator is supposed to be an uprated one, which came with the turbo. I do still have the Forge one with a yellow spring that the car was remapped with, but as the K250 came with an uprated actuator I thought it would be best to use the one that came with it!

Sorry to hear about your turbo. I have a ko3s that I am going to sell, but think it was on its way out and will only really be any good for someone to refurb

GTI is not a trim level. It is a lifestyle.

I have been speaking to R-Tech and they say it will need remapping again for the new mods! So a trip back up to see them soon it is

All I can think is that as soon as the new turbo was put on with the supersize tip and ported manifold, the ecu took a few miles to register the new mods and once it had it went into safe mode!  :undecided:

The annoying thing though is that I bought that particular turbo because it did not need remapping in.

Have you got a fmic? because I thought you beed one for stage 2. When I was running just a stage 1 I had a consistent lack of power problem, which I replaced everything that eventually enabled me to go to stage 2 and still had not fixed it. So when I took it to R-tech for them to remap to stage 2, Niki found the problem straight away, it was a weak fuel pump that was on its way out! So that could be worth a try if you have done everything else!

im with this. It most likely would need remapping due to the different turbo. Even though its a k03s but its been modified so i would defo listen to my man!
