Abf with cda vs ctn gearbox
« on: 05 March 2014, 17:09 »
Got a mk3 abf with a cda gearbox, the cda is standard 16v gearbox which is basically shot, the diff is going to explode any day I recon.

What I need to know is the cda is so revvy, it goes well and that but I do a lot of motorway miles and just after something not so revvy, doing 3-4000 ramp and 70ish mph is killing me on fuel, just wondered if anyone has fitted a ctn diesel gearbox off a 1z mk3 on a abf and what were the results, or any suggestions as to what to use if not? Not really wanting to but swapping internals to get the gearbox how I want it, would prefer something I could just "bolt on" and get it to work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I have done many hours of research and not been able to fine a definitive answer

4000 revs in mine is 90mph, so something not right!

the flywheel has been lightened, the cranks has been polished, knife edged and balanced, the bores have been honed and slightly oversized, the head has been gasflowed, polished and ported with uprated valve train, and every since this engine has been in, its always been around that figure,

is your gearbox code deffo cda?

Sounds like you might have a different final drive fitted to that gearbox perhaps?

and len, is it an 02a gearbox? I would assume with hydro clutch and cable shift. just trying to find a suitable ratio box to fit on that's not so revvy, its killing me on fuel, and imafter a few longer ratios, hint why Im after a ctn box, a mate has one in his abf but is unsure on code, its off a diesel audi a3
