Vibration when accelerating
« on: 02 March 2014, 09:29 »
As title say i have a vibration through the pedals and more so the passenger side footwell when i am accelerating? So far i have changed the front wheel bearing, ball joints, track rod ends and i have also had the tracking done and the wheels balanced.
I have noticed that i have a bit of movement in my engine ie knackered mount somewhere? Would this cause the problem i am getting and if so where is the best place to get them from?
It is more noticeable between 35 & 40 mph and after that it calms Down a bit?

Is it road speed or engine speed related? Ie is it always at 40mph even if you change gears.

Could very well be powertrain mounts, though it impossible to be sure. Could be a huge number of things.

I would focus on the front end, the fact being its more noticeable when excelerating.
Bulge on tyre, warped wheel, cv joint, bearing, loose wheel like Chris says list is endless.

After 40mph it calms down? sounds a balance problem even though you say its been done.

Whats a 1.5 remap

I had the front wheels balanced and 4 wheel laser tracking at same time. It's had new bearing ball joint, track rod end as I thought it was something go do with them?
A custom 1.5 remap is half way between a 1 and 2 lol
It's more on the passenger side?

You need to see if it happens in all gears at or just at the specific road speed.

Not to get overly technical.

I suspect its some sort of torsional mode being exited, or not damped which is why it only happens on throttle and why it happens only over a narrow speed range.

Which means clutch, DMF or driveshafts or similar.

I see you have it mapped, have you had a new clutch fitted? Driveshafts/cv joint are probably quite a good shout.

It's not clutch or gearbox related? It's to fierce and there is no vibration through gear stick? I don't think it's the driveshafts either as there is not vibration through the steering wheel only the floor?

It's a cable shifter, which is very effective in isolating the hand lever from the gearbox. You wouldn't expect too much vibration to come through from the gearbox.

However, the fact that you can't feel it through the steering wheel, leads away from a TV problem and back to mounts. You said you can feel it through the pedals, if it's the floor then it increases the evidence for a mount.

It's really impossible to diagnose over the web, it's a case of take it in somewhere or start changing things. Mounts are a sensible place to start, even if they aren't the issue, replacing a worn one will make the car feel better regardless.
