Need help with estimates of damage to car

take it you don't have NCD protection?

can't you claim from insurance and they will recover from the twit who caused damage without losing ncd?? [this is how it works in most of europe, uk really behind on that too?!]

Any claim puts up your premium even if its non fault and you have pncd.......learnt that lesson

somehow this country never stops to amaze me (with how stupid you can do things just because that's how it's always been).... 

or no ID cards because then 'big brother' would know everything but highest cctv density in europe (if not world), having to tell landlord my whole life history and give him all my personal info (including exactly how much i earn).... took me longer to get a uk bank account than in the (communist!?) people's republic of china (as a foreigner) because I did not have a utility bill with address on (get a freaking central register and id numbers, works everywhere else).

sorry about ot rant... having lived in few countries I just see stupid things much clearer because I have seen how it can be done better (Finland, get national ID number, change your address and give your id number, all your banks, insurance etc get notified and start sending stuff to correct new address => less chance for fraud etc)...
still amazed how much sh!t people take (not just here thou) ...

I will see what the police tell me this week. Am not sure how it works exactly. Maybe they will allow fir independent estimates I hope..

The Police just need an idea of cost to repair damage so they can say in court that the guy who did it caused X amount of damage in case the court make a compensation order.If the guy is unemployed it is unlikely that such an order will be made.If they are on a low income the court may make an order for compensation but if it was something like £500 the order would probably only be £20 a month or something and even then if the guy does'nt pay it could be back and forth to court to get anything and it could go on for a very long time.You could claim through the small claims court but whether you go that route would all depend on the guys financial situation.No point milking a bull !.

dunno the police said they can't give me any more information. they are not helpful at all. Considering they asked for my statement tgat I did not give peission for this guy to destroy my car they aren't very helpful. not fair at all. They just said talk to your insurance company....

as i didn't take legal cover i guess i cannot do so now before i claim and recover costs??

legal cover would start today when you take it out today, it would not cover incidents that happened in the past for obvious reasons.

write the car off, if you really think it's worth it buy it back from insurance for scrap value and buy used bits from scrappy or someone who brakes a car on here (I got a bonnet and grill for my mates car from a friendly forum member for fair price).

considering how many issues you seem to have had with it i'd personally just write it off and buy another one...

autoglass will come out and make a rough estimate for swiftcover and I will see what they do with that. Swiftcover recommended that I go to small claims court and get the deductible back frim the perpetrator
for the windshield. Rate will not go up next year for this type of claim. If i claim the damages on the car i will end up paying more in insurance than I will get for the car when I renew... so looks i will have to live with the scrapes and bumps...
