Update:

Not meant to excite or confuse.

The dealer, who has been very good by the way, has told me that VW HQ Techies have suggested there could be a problem with certain shock absorbers.  Apparently the issue relates to some part (can't be more specific) within he body of the shock which is causing the squeaky rattle.

They are going to fit my car, temporarily, with shocks from a Golf they have on site and then do a test run.  If that fixes the problem then they'll order some new.  The rub is though that if they prove its my shocks that are the problem and they order some new ones, they don'y know if the new ones will have the same problem.

One step forward....

Would be very interest to hear what the outcome of this was. Mine is booked in for a 2 day diagnosis on 1st April (no joke - the earliest i could get a slot with courtesy car). Creaking getting worse now, was intermittent at 2k miles but very much constant now up to 4.5k

All fixed!

Been to vw Crewe where tech tom a super lad heared it straightaway on the test drive and commented that he's has had other mk7 gti and d in before for the same.

After a nice hazelnut coffee, he appeared to say it was the front shocker gators that when the dealership had removed the transport puks had just let the gators drop down. They should be pulled down fully and clipped. Through movement they twist and become trapped.
Top marks to Tom runner up In national vw apprentice of the year I can see why.

Delighted .

That’s an interesting update – my front shock gaiters are just hanging loose, they were never clipped to anywhere, which allowed me to easily remove the transport pucks that the dealership left in at PDI. The rear ones are fully enclosed with a clip, but the front ones aren’t.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Thats interesting as i stuck a borescope up the gaitors on Mrs D's GTI to 100% see that the pucks were out and they were not clipped, that was 6 months ago, I need to have a quick look at the weekend

Mine's fixed too!

Lower wishbone bush (front passenger) squeaking and rattling.  Whole wishbone structure replaced - problem solved.

The whole TPI thing was a red herring.  There still is a TPI out for a rear, shock related, knocking noise but that's not was wrong with my car.

Happy days!

Interesting to see there are several fixes for this, maybe it's worth a voting thread?!

Mine's in today to have this looked at (front left), there's a bulletin out for it apparently so guess there have been enough GTi/Ds returned for this issue. Will post the outcome in due course.

Well mine finally got the drivers side top mount changed. Driven it for a week and the rattling sound which it had been doing since new is now gone.

Annoying this is the dealer fixed the ns one before Christmas without complaint when I went back in with the drivers side doing the same they refused to do it saying it was a characteristic of the car (according to VW) . Complained to VWUK and they got the dealer to take it back in and change it, got an apology from VW for the confusion. To be fair to the dealer they showed me the correspondence they had from VW saying that the part wasn't to be changed and the noise was a known issue but not a problem.
