Fault code P2187
« on: 06 February 2014, 19:38 »
Hi

My GTI started playing up last night. I noticed when in neutral the revs weren't dropping down to the usual idle level straight away. Also if I blip the throttle the revs stay at about 1300rpm then slowly drop away over about 5 seconds, then climb again etc etc. It sounds slightly rough too but not terrible. No noticeable performance problems and hasn't triggered any warning lights on the dash (yet).

I did a scan and got the below. Any ideas?

I've just noticed there's a hissing noise which is audible after engine is switched off. Goes on for about 10 seconds. Had engine cover off (which was a battle) and cannot see any split pipes...

I think you are right, I've come to same conclusion after a bit of googling. Hissing was definitely coming from immediately under engine cover. Will try and get one tomorrow but I doubt it'll be a stock part so may not be able to sort straight away.

Order it early enough and you should get it for Saturday morning

I reckon its a stock item though.........

Run the test on the PCV. Run you engine and remove the oil cap for a second. If the end one tries to stall its all good. If it carries on running fine, not so good.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Managed to get hold of a PCV valve today and successfully changed it, took about 15 minutes. Cleared fault codes and went for a spin - fault cleared and massive difference, the car must have been running really badly before. The valve unit is the 'N' variant (06F 129 101N) and cost £38 incl VAT, the one I took off was F variant. Anyway I am happy to have been able to sort it quite cheaply. Thanks for guidance!

That's a good price too. Was it genuine?
